Other names for this deck include:
My Little Theoden
Theoden the Horselord
Santa is missing some reindeer
Théoden is a very special hero. From what I remember, he's the only hero in the game that can apparently ride FIVE HORSES if his attachments are played right. I mean, I personally can't say I can even ride one horse, but Théoden can ride five! Even just 2 horses seems like a challenge...balancing one leg on each horse...
Arod and Asfaloth (you need Elf-friend for Asfaloth for Theoden) are not counted as restricted attachments ever, and Snowmane isn't counted as one when played on Théoden! So after those three are played, you still have room for any two of the other horses in the game, and any of them can be played on Théoden except for Shadowfax. You could always just play Asfaloth on Erestor, but where's the fun in that? Part of the fun of this deck is putting as many horses on Théoden as you can. (Side note: After just a few more mounts come out that don't have restrictions, we will be able to build the "Santa and his Eight Reindeer" Deck.)
So this originally started out as a joke deck, but actually may not be bad at questing. I haven't actually played it yet, but it seems like it could muster some serious willpower with it's allies and has quite a bit of location control and attack with the mounts. The deck takes major advantage of Theoden's cost reduction ability. You should easily be able to get out at least one Rohan ally per turn with the crazy card draw you get from Erestor. i mean, i've never included Guthlaf in a deck before, but for one resourse, 6 stat points sounds really good. Not to mention Westfold Horse-breeder becomes free. The only problem is you can only use that ability once per turn, but still, thats basically an extra resource being generated every turn. The main reasons Merry was included was to give access to tactics and to allow me to put Hobbit Pony into the deck. (Side note: I was talking to a friend yesterday about Hobbit Pony and thanks to him I may forever call that card "Little Sebastian".)
Something I just realized as I was typing this...there's quite a bit of action advantage in this deck too. Fast Hitch/Unexpected Courage are obvious, but this also makes use of The Riddermark's Finest and horses like Rohan Warhorse and Snowmane. If you put Rohan Warhorse with Merry, he can help someone destroy an enemy, then ready himself with warhorse and then another character that participated in the attack. it's not too hard for Merry to get 3-4 actions per turn. Now I really want to try this deck out and see how it plays.
Let me know if you guys have any questions, comments, thoughts on how to make the deck better, or even some silly titles that I didn't think of!
Steed of the Mark is also non-restricted, if you want to get up to 8 horses.
