For the sake of clarifying/disclaiming, I did not try to make this an RCO deck; however, this deck was inspired by a deck on the front-page AND I had just listened to an episode of COTR that really made me want to mess around Dwarf Pipe.

Hero Choices

At first I tried using MOTK Bilbo Baggins to immediately fetch Dwarf Pipe which was fun in-and-of itself, but I ultimately went with Gandalf because he just provides soooooo many choices to an already fun deck archetype. It's really good fun bouncing cards around using Wizard Pipe to get exactly what you want on top of your deck. Gandalf is mining made easy with his ability to scry the top card of your deck the entire game.

Bifur is here for resource smoothing early on. He can really get you kickstarted by paying for an early Ered Nimrais Prospector or a couple of Erebor Record Keeper.

I used the Spirit version of Dáin Ironfoot because he's such a strong defender AND he thins your deck out even faster! The downside is that means you can't play alongside someone running his Leadership version. I play mostly solo so that isn't usually a problem for me. You could consider swapping him out for a different Spirit Hero. (MOTK Bilbo Baggins???? Try it! It's fun!)

Instructions

The deck works pretty much like you would expect a mining deck to work: mill through your deck to get rid of cards you don't need and gain resources. Zigil Miner will help generate some extra resources along the way. You may even make a friend while digging! (Ered Luin Miner? Is that the thematic explanation?)

Make sure to get your Dwarf Pipe early! Even better if you can get Wizard Pipe too! Smoke and Think can you give you discounts early on until you start regularly hitting your Hidden Cache. (Make sure to recycle these with Dwarf Pipe and Ered Nimrais Prospector.)

Untroubled by Darkness and Faramir help make up for the lack of Leadership Dáin Ironfoot. One copy of Will of the West should be all you need to get you out of tight spaces if you happen to dig too greedily.
