Smoking = Victory

Pipe decks are surprisingly powerful. This deck was built to test Old Toby and see if it was worth the cost.
Answer: yes, without a doubt!

I also enjoy that this deck ended up quite thematic. It reminds me of Merry and Pippin meeting Treebeard and The White Wizard and Quickbeam in Fangorn.

Opening Hand:

Mulligan for Wizard Pipe or Bilbo Baggins to fetch it. If you don't get it than hopefully you are an Expert Treasure-hunter.

Gameplay: Use the Wizard pipe to put any Hidden Cache or Ered Luin Miners you have in your hand on top of your deck to be discarded via Expert treasure hunter or Erebor Guard and Flame of Anor.

Try to get as many pipes out as possible. It is not uncommon to have 3-5 pipes in play very quickly. Once your pipes are in play Smoke Rings and Old Toby become very valuable. Use Good Meal to play these events for free.

Although there are not many allies, you brought Gandalf to the table. With Shadowfax, Unexpected Courages and A Burning Brand he can defend and attack multiple times.

I have played this solo 4 times and won each time, with less than 5 cards remaining in my deck (0 a couple of times).

Combos:

Nothing really tricksey about this deck.
Assign archery damage among your heroes if you plan on playing Old Toby. It is not uncommon to draw 4-5 cards with this event.
Smoke rings keeps your threat in check and activates the Hobbit Pipes. Expert Treasure hunter with Hidden Cache on top of your deck. Say EVENT, you still discard it to get the resources, then the next turn use Wizard pipe to put it back on top to repeat. Extra 2 resources every round.

What is a good scenario for playing this deck against?

thank you for your comment mtngrown. I tested it solo against, Anduin, The Passage of the Marshes, The Mumakil, and another I forgot. I would say it is good against any quest that dose not punish card draw.

Thanks!

Cool idea. I didn't know that Gandalf's effect allows A Burning Brand to be attached to him!! That's pretty cool!!

Daigelmir, glad to be able to shine a light on a new combo for you (get it?).

Would (MotK) Bilbo Baggins be better than Merry?
