Darkling Door 6446
This is a solo rohan deck focused on one thing: mustering hordes of Rohirrim at insane discounts.
General Strategy
With one turn's notice, you can pay for any four cost ally in the deck, no matter what color it is. Just drop Théodred's resource on the appropriate hero, then use Théoden's and Gríma's discounts to play it for cheap. You should be able to dump 1-3 allies down every turn no problem.
Because you'll need to keep finding the right allies for the situation, you should mulligan for Gléowine. If you don't get him in your opening hand, you should hopefully be able to find him using Mustering the Rohirrim.
Once you've found Gléowine, you mostly use Gríma's resources to play Gandalf.
Attachments
Because of the heavy skew towards Spirit in this deck, you'll definitely want to drop the Keys of Orthanc on Théoden.
There are three readying attachments in this deck: Heir of Mardil, Snowmane, and Unexpected Courage. Heir of Mardil goes best on Théoden since you'll likely want to be giving most of Théodred's extra resources to him, but other than that the first attachment you find should go on Théoden, and the second on Théodred.
Combat
The primary form of defense for this deck is chump blocking. Once you've drawn your second Gléowine or Gamling, don't hesitate to chump with the first--you can always put your second copy down next turn.
One of the biggest struggles this deck has is with mustering enough attack power. You might need to hold back Théoden or Théodred from the quest when you know you're going to have to take down a tough enemy. Once Gléowine is in play, you should use your Mustering the Rohirrim to prioritize finding those 2 attack allies.
When all else fails, you can Sneak Attack in Éomund to chump block so that you can ready enough attack power to kill something. Those little 1-attack characters can add up!

Jun 15, 2016Lovely deck, but why no Daeron's Runes or Deep Knowledge? Maybe instead of Mustering the Rohirrim, or one of the other events, one of those two would be better. Otherwise, this deck looks excellent and I will surely be trying it soon. Hopefully we'll get a Spirit or Leadership ally Éomer and an ally Eowyn soon to compensate the lack of such iconic characters. |
Jun 16, 2016I actually had both Daeron's Runes and Deep Knowledge in an earlier version of this deck. Deep Knowledge came out because this deck already runs hot on threat, and I couldn't justify playing it when threating out was a real danger. Daeron's Runes was in a little longer, but I found that whenever I played it I was hoping to draw either Gléowine or one of the two allies--and I could get exactly what I wanted by using Mustering the Rohirrim instead, so I replaced it. I'm definitely going to come back to this deck later in this cycle when some of the new Rohan cards come out. Ceorl will be a great fit, for example. I can't wait to see who we get in Flame of the West. |
I've been having a lot of fun playing this deck lately. I took it up against Helm's Deep (illegally, technically, since you aren't actually supposed to use Gríma there) and won on my first try. Since then I've been playing it against The Druadan Forest (Nightmare and regular) pretty successfully.
I still don't feel right about using Gríma's resources just to play Gléowine and Gandalf. I've been thinking about adding in some Errand-riders, but I'm not sure what I want to cut for them.
I'd love to hear any suggestions!
