Heroes and Attachments

Argalad is the primary focus of the deck so you want to get as many attachment boosts as fast as possible. Two copies of Mirkwood Long-knife go on him, bumping both his and to 4, which is high enough to be able to damage most enemies using his ability. You can also bump up his using Fair and Perilous if you really need to damage a high threat enemy, but those enemies are generally immune to player card effects, so you shouldn't have to use it that often for his ability.

This version of Legolas was also another card that I rarely used since I almost always use his variation in my decks, so this was also an opportunity to get him out of my player card binder. Once Argalad has both of his knives, play the third Mirkwood Long-knife on Legolas to increase his stats to 2 and 4 . Since we know that Legolas will almost always be questing, play Warden of Arnor on him to help place progress on locations that are revealed. Although you may be tempted to play Light of Valinor on Elrond, throw it on Legolas instead (blasphemy, I know). Another interesting choice is to play Necklace of Girion on Legolas so that he gets more resources and helps him quest. We'll get to why this is the intended play instead of attaching both to Elrond.

Speaking of the Lord of Rivendell, this deck also uses Elrond with Vilya (no surprise there) in order to help get cards into play. The majority of the allies in the deck are so Elrond helps with resource smoothing, and Vilya also helps getting those high costing allies into play if you can manage to stack your deck with Imladris Stargazer beforehand. Elrond is also our main defender, so put A Burning Brand on him so he doesn't have to worry about nasty Shadow effects. Since Elrond will be defending most of the time, I thought it would be fun to toss Ring of Barahir on him to increase his hit points for both rings as well as other artifacts such as The Arkenstone, Thror's Map, and Thrór's Key.

The only other attachment I haven't talked about is Unexpected Courage, and you should put at least one on Argalad so that he can attack and use his ability in the same turn. Honestly, you can play it on anyone that you feel needs it, depending on your board state and the encounter deck.

Questing

During the quest phase, you have a variety of options of how to use Argalad, depending on what is in the staging area. The goal is to consistently be able to commit Legolas and Argalad to the quest, use Legolas' ability to ready Argalad, and then use his ability when/if you need it. If both of them have all of their attachments, they can quest for 8 (10 if The Arkenstone is in play under your control) without having to exhaust.

When you're playing this deck, keep in mind of all possible action windows in the quest phase. If there's already an enemy you want to target before staging, you can use Argalad's ability after you commit him to quest, but before you reveal cards. If an enemy is revealed during staging that you don't like, you can trigger his ability right before the quest resolution step. Just remember that you can't trigger his ability while you're revealing cards in the staging step.

Combat

The entire reason why Legolas gets Light of Valinor is so that he can quest, ready Argalad, AND be ready during combat. If you haven't used Argalad's ability this round, you can also use him as an attacker. Since they're both Ranged, you can help out other player's if needed. With all of their goodies, they both should be at 4 , which isn't absolutely fantastic, but it's pretty good for non- characters. And for those times you need to smash an enemy's head in, play Fair and Perilous to make either one attack for 8 .

Other Cards

The allies don't matter too much, but they help you find some of your tools faster. You can use the classic Imladris Stargazer to control what you revealed with Vilya, or go fishing with Long Lake Fisherman. This deck shouldn't have any problems drawing cards with Daeron's Runes, Deep Knowledge, and Elven-light, and you can always pitch the extra unique cards for Legolas' ability.
