I used this deck to solitary beat the first scenario of The Hobbit Saga Expansion - We Must Away, Ere Break of Day. It is mostly a dwarven thematic deck, with some exceptions to ensure a strong questing potential (Faramir).

The main focus is to quest heavily, going through the encounter deck as quickly as possible in the second stage, until the dawn comes and turns the trolls into stone :).

Few hints on how to finish the scenario with this deck:

  1. As instructed by the game, Bilbo Baggins is the fourth hero.
  2. In the first part of the quest, focus on filling the board with dwarf allies. Do not rush through the first quest phase.
  3. You can either advance to the second stage after 2 planning phases, when your threat is still under 33 and your board is already strong enough (at-least 5 dwarf characters in order to benefit from the Ori and Thorin Oakenshield abilities, which is quite crucial). That way Tom does not engage (and sack) you immediately. However, sometimes it is better to build the board a little longer and just sack 2 characters, which you should have plenty of by the time. Chances are you will be able to unsack them with Bilbo anyway.
  4. In any case, you MUST finish the second stage in under 3 turns. Be sure to have Faramir on board, use Gandalf to lower your threat. Durin's Song, Burglar Baggins, Radagast's Cunning, Secret Paths and Protector of Lórien are all great utility cards to one-time maximize your questing potential and discard as many cards from the encounter deck as possible.
  5. Snowbourn Scouts are for chump blocking the troll attacks, while you also can defend with Thorin Oakenshield, as the shadow cards usually do not boost the attack, you should be able to block with him twice. Fili and Kili are also reasonable chump blockers, especially when you have another copy on hand, so you can recall these two fellas again.
  6. I do not recommended trying to kill the trolls with this deck.
  7. Cram can be used to both quest with Dáin Ironfoot and benefit from his ability, or/and on Bilbo Baggins to both quest and unsack a character, or unsacking two characters in one turn!

Timing is the key and the feeling of revealing the Dawn Take You All card is pretty epic!

Played using this deck twice. Lost first time, won second time. Quest feels a little swingy.
