You heard it right: this mono-Thalin Deck can beat a quest. And before you ask, yes, that quest is Passage through Mirkwood.

Why mono-Thalin? Well, there's a rumor that the creator of the game, Nate French, has a mono-Thalin deck that can beat every single quest in the game on the first attempt. And apparently he does this without any other starting heroes, or even a deck at all. You can listen to him talk about it at the 2:32:00 mark of Episode 150.5 of Cardboard of the Rings.

We aren't quite sure how he does is it. We may never find out his secret. The best we can do is try. The deck listed here is my attempt at a mono-Thalin deck, even though I know I've fallen short of perfection.

Notes

This deck uses the newly spoiled Three Hunters contract (Side A / Side B). Horn of Gondor is a proxy for the newly spoiled War Axe.

Strategy

Mulligan for Peace, and Thought and play it turn 1, exhausting Denethor and Folco. In turn 2, discard Folco and kill Denethor with an undefended attack so only Thalin is remaining. Getting two restricted attachments is rather easy and you will be able to flip the contract in the refresh phase.

Put Strider on Thalin so he can quest without exhausting. If he's got Celebrían's Stone and two other restricteds, he quests for a respectable 8 .

Defenses are handled with Feint, The Wizards's Voice, and Close Call. You can also defend with Thalin if you playd Cram on him before you lost Denethor.

Attacks are handled with THalin having around 7-8 with a couple weapons. Ungoliants Spawn can be killed using a combination of Unseen Strike, Heavy Stroke, and Khazâd! Khazâd!.

Fun deck & video! You made one mistake: War Axe is limited to 1 per character, per the text on the card; you put two on Thalion. But you had a Dagger of Westernesse in your hand (or something), and you were low threat, so it cost you 1 and didn't affect the outcome. Chapeaux!

I feel like the only thing missing is The One Ring for Thalin. That would be a thematic win in my book!
