This is a custom built solo deck for the "Shadow and Flame" scenario. It is a fun, but ultra difficult quest. This deck can win it.

One of the main challenges is to deal with the constant 6 damage attack from Balrog. This deck solves this issue with the Théoden, Gamling and Snowbourn Scout combo. Use Snowbourn Scout to defend against Balrog and then use Gamling's response to put Snowbourn Scout back into your hand. With Théoden's ability you can play it for free the next round. This engine gives you a reliable 0-cost defender to take Balrog's attack every turn. Note that Westfold Horse-breeder is an alternative Balrog blocker, using the same Rohan synergy (both Westfold Horse-breeder and Snowbourn Scout have a useful response when played, consider that when deciding which to use).

The offensive strategy is also based on the Rohan keyword: attach a mount to every Rohan character you can and then have a huge damage turn with the Charge of the Rohirrim - you can reliably deal 15-25 damage. Use Háma's ability to take back Charge of the Rohirrim into your hand to use again. Only use this combo once you are in a position to finish Balrog, otherwise he will regenerate the damage. Note that the only reason to include Tireless Thoroughbred is that it can be attached to allies (not just heroes as most mounts), potentially making your Rohan warrior allies (Déorwine, Éothain) eligible for the boost from Charge of the Rohirrim.

The last critical piece is Imladris Stargazer. Use it to find the cards when you need them. This deck contains a lot of "Shuffle your deck" effects (Bilbo Baggins, Spare Pipe, Westfold Horse-breeder, Mustering the Rohirrim), use these wisely. Check the top 5 cards with Imladris Stargazer, draw what you need and then play one of the shuffle your deck cards, so that Imladris Stargazer can find new cards. Also, use Imladris Stargazer to arrange the top of your deck for max damage when you push Balrog into the pit.

Mulligan targets: Gamling and one of the recycle-able Balrog blockers (Snowbourn Scout or Westfold Horse-breeder). You will need to setup this defensive combo ASAP, round 2 ideally. Mustering the Rohirrim can be also very useful to find these pieces and a A Test of Will is always good in the opening hand.

The heart of this deck is the Rohan blocker recycling, if you can set it up early, you have a good chance to win, otherwise you will loose quickly:)

Have fun!

I really dont mean to he the bearer of bad news, but allies can only be recurred with Gamling if they are "discarded" and not destroyed. This means the discard jas to be done by an ability or other card effect. I myself had played this way in the past only to realize inread Gamling's ability incorrectly. It was a sad moment. Perhaps Grimbold could help out with your idea.

I do like your overall concept, though. If you have it, Snowmane is an excellent choice for Theoden.

Damn, unfortunately you are correct. pg6 of the online rulebook states explicitly that 'destroy' is not the same as 'discard' which is how I played. Thank you for pointing it out. On the bright side, excellent excuse to come back to this quest
