With Flame of the West releasing, I wanted to make a deck which used three familiar heroes, but in the less used version. Obviously, in the case of Beregond and Éowyn, that is due to their relatively newness, but with Théoden, who was generally panned upon release, I thought it would be interesting to build a deck that truly showcases him.
I recently, as of time of publishing, posted a screen cap of me defeating Murder at the Prancing Pony with this deck. This was my first time playing the quest, and I could see how you could easily get overwhelmed by locations. This deck was able to keep up, only questing unsuccessfully once, and still manage the enemies who came out.
One thing I am still undecided on is Éowyn. It's nice having her willpower in tactics, and a starting threat which is effectively 6. I didn't, however use her attack boost. In theory, I could have, had I felt it was necessary, but I suppose it's nice to have, just in case. Also, due to the Ramshackle Manor, which I had at least one copy in play the whole game, I never got to use Beregond's ability. Again, another thing that's nice to have and would have gotten plenty of mileage in another quest.
For a sideboard, I included the alternate versions of the heroes. I think it could work as any combination of the heroes, even possibly monosphere. I think monotactics would work slightly better, as the bulk of the cards lean that way. Regardless of composition, I think Steward of Gondor should go on a Tactics hero. I also included some additional mounts. I only think Steed of Imladris would be appropriate on Éowyn and Steed of the Mark, while not my favorite card may work with Beregond, where Théoden is boosting his willpower or with either in a siege quest.
I never thought of using Treebeard without other Ents, but being able to ready himself every other round might make him worth it. The list of decks I want to try keeps growing.
