DECK NAME - Tentacle Time
OVERVIEW - This deck is designed to win by adding Doors of Durin to the Victory Display. Rather than attacking the tentacle enemies, you simply defend against them with Frodo, drawing cards all the while. Henamarth allows you to see the card on top of the encounter deck so that you can use Doors of Durin's action to win the game.
HEROES
- Beravor - attach Song of Kings and Steward of Gondor; draw cards each round with her
- Eowyn - quest with her each round
- Frodo - attach Dúnedain Warning or Protector of Lórien and one or two Fast Hitch; use Arwen Undómiel to boost his every round; do not quest with Frodo
STRATEGY
- OPENING HAND - look for immediately useful cards
- CARD DRAW - Gléowine, 3X Ancient Mathom and Gandalf
- THREAT REDUCTION - 3X Elrond's Counsel while Arwen Undómiel is in play, The Galadhrim's Greeting, and Gandalf
- Gandalf - you may want to use him to kill Mountain Warg or Striking Tentacle; a great Combat Round involves bringing Gandalf in using Sneak Attack to kill a Mountain Warg, defend against Striking Tentacle w Frodo and kill Striking Tentacle with Gandalf
- Forest Snare - save for Striking Tentacle or Mountain Warg; probably won't need it
- DOORS OF DURIN - exhaust Henamarth Riversong to determine if you can discard the Doors of Durin location using its action; I have included several cards that can be mildly useful in the quest while also helping to give you the needed letters to discard
ENCOUNTER CARDS
- Ill Purpose - save A Test of Will to keep the Watcher from engaging you
- Stagnant Creek - A Test of Will may be a good strategy early to keep from getting overwhelmed
- Stair Falls - West Road Traveller or Strider's Path
- Striking Tentacle - Gandalf or Forest Snare
- The Watcher - Frodo can take his 3 damage and turn it into threat; the "once per phase" applies to the following Refresh Phase
- Wrapped - only an issue in the early game; once Frodo gets Fast Hitches on him it's no big deal
