DECK NAME - Let the Bodies Hit the Table

https://youtu.be/3z9NGYUGJyY

OVERVIEW - I appreciate the design of this quest for its difficulty and for throwing all the traditional strategies out the window. In Stage 1, we will generally limit the amount of allies in play leaving enough for possible chumping. Beorn will then attack and kill 1 engaged enemy per round while Eowyn and Elrond make progress so that we avoid location lock. In stage 2, we'll spend all our saved resources to put out whatever allies we have in hand (be sure to advance when there’s only 1 time counter left so that you have as many cards as possible to put into play) in a brutal fight for the finish.

STRATEGY

  • OPENING HAND - I generally mulligan for Light of Valinor but a copy of Expert Treasure-hunter, Feint or The Wizards's Voice are nice consolation prizes
  • SETUP - select Boar Clan Warrior as the enemy
  • STAGE 1 - generally only put as many allies in play at a time that will serve the purpose of chumping; we'll quickly progress through stage 1 and aim to advance during round 4 or 6 (so we have mazimum cards in hand); wait to advance when the 2nd time counter is about to be removed
  • STAGE 2 - make sure your chosen ally is ready in case you need a chump
  • STAGE 3 - play all allies in your hand; with a combination of Beorn, chump blockers, Gandalf's direct damage, and Elrond's attack/defense we should have enough to make it through the final stage
  • CONDITION REMOVAL - 3X Miner of the Iron Hills and Power of Orthanc should keep us from dying to a pesky condition attachment; didn't find A Test of Will to reliably be in our hand when needed for this quest
  • Envoy of Pelargir and Errand-rider are both good ways to transfer resources to Elrond so he can be sure to pay for Ranger Spikes
  • Gondorian Spearman - great way to soften a boosted enemy in stage 2 for Beorn
  • The Riddermark's Finest - there have been a few occasions where its action helped clear a location
  • Expert Treasure-hunter - my favorite card in the deck as it helps us "draw" more allies (or a much needed event) in stage 2 without penalty
  • Ranger Spikes on Dunland Chieftain is the dream
