Discard Pile
|
spanishinquisition 267
While it is clear that the Noldor archetype is focused on discarding cards and manipulating the discard pile, I've decided to try and focus very specifically on the nature of the discarding for this Noldor deck. I also (as is my want) wanted to include some less played cards, and some new Noldor cards (Veteran Sword-elf being a prime example).
This deck is all about using the cards in your hand (particularly the multiples of events) to get allies into play cheaply, and to fuel some powerful effects. The card draw is very good, and it's not difficult for you to draw through your whole deck before using Will of the West to start the discard/draw cycle all over again. The Silver Harps turn your discarding into a renewable fuel source!
You want to get To the Sea, to the Sea! in your opening hand, and mulligan for it if needs be. Elven-light is fantastic early on, but you can get by until one comes along. Guardian of Rivendell is clutch in this deck, especially with a Imladris Caregiver out, and some defence boost coming from Arwen Undómiel and/or Narya. Once you get a Imladris Stargazer out you can start to take full advantage of Vilya to really pump the allies out.
The one copy of Lords of the Eldar I always found I discarded, and could be a very clutch effect at the right time of the game (you certainly never play this more than once a game, if that).
Threat isn't even a consideration in this deck, because Galadriel keeps your threat at 34 (unless a treachery with doomed comes along). I even finished some games under 30 threat due to Elrond's Counsel.
Unsurprisingly, I've taken this quest through The Sands of Harad and a smattering of older quests and found it to be a lot of fun and rather flexible. In particular, I want to make mention of Veteran Sword-elf, who turns out to be a real star in this deck. Upon release, this card (not unfairly) was questioned as to its usefulness, and the effort and time required to set it up. In this deck, the first two copies fuel the Noldor discard engine, and then you drop in the third at three Attack and defence - very useful!
