A solo mono tactics deck that is viable and fun.
This is a pretty simple take on Imrahil, just using allies that work natively with his ability, with no tricks like Elf-friend, so he's ready to go right out of the gate.
However, since it's solo-viable, there's a couple allies included here for their willpower that don't synergize with him, but that's fine.
Early Game
Let's take a close look at the early game, because that's the most important part. Éowyn and Mablung start you off with a solid 6 willpower, which is enough to sustain you in most quests until you can get out some of your 2-willpower allies.
You have a choice with Imrahil - you could quest with him if you want a strong first turn push, and keep a resource on him to pull out a defender if needed. I like to keep him ready, possibly with a weapon or Dúnedain Hunter/Westfold Outrider by his side as well as a resource on him, so you can pull out a defender and kill the turn 1 enemy right away.
Mid game
Engage, engage, engage. It's pretty amazing how quickly this deck can churn through enemies. Mablung is stellar in this deck by providing you with so many resources so that you don't feel the loss of economy from Imrahil so much.
Typically I play my attackers from hand while I trigger Imrahil to pull out a defender, not caring if they get damaged or killed because I only spent one resource on them. Boromir is a favourite of mine for this purpose, because you can often get 2-3 defences out of him, then he gets "healed" in a way by going back into your deck.
Overall Thoughts
I think it's surprisingly well rounded for being a mono-tactics deck. Taking a mulligan for Legolas can be helpful if you find the card draw lacking. The one main shortcoming is of course healing, but with your defenders jumping back into the deck it's not too big a problem. Archery is somewhat a concern, but it's mitigated by all your allies having decent health pools, and by the fact that enemy archers shouldn't be living longer than one turn.
Bonus Fun Combo
The deck is somewhat low in threat (starting at 27), so you'll occasionally not need to engage an enemy. If you leave it in the staging area, you can try for this combo: Wait until after enemy attacks are complete, then trigger Imrahil and try to grab a Knight of Minas Tirith. Then, engage that enemy and you get two attacks against it (one with the Knight, then again with everyone else).
Finally, it hasn't been tested in multiplayer but by looking at it I think it would still perform just as well.

Jan 24, 2017While it costs a little bit more, you could include Dwarven Axe. |
Apr 11, 2017Would you say Steward of Orthanc and Wait No Longer make for good additions to the deck? I know you're not a fan of the latter, but with all the resources this generates it shouldn't be hard to pay for, plus it works with Mablung. |
I like this. I have been playing a solo mono tactics deck quite a bit recently, and this definitely gave me some ideas. Thanks for sharing!
