Thurindir is certainly a very interesting hero, but how to make him work? Considering you need to defeat side quests to take advantage of their benefits, you definitely need some serious will power, right from the beginning. That means that, ideally, you want heroes with 3 ~ 4 will power. There is also the 'dilemma' of which side quest will you be bringing into your initial hand, because your deck should inherently be built around the benefits of that side quest.

I guess many people would pick Gather Information. It's certainly powerful, specially in multiplayer. It allows you to go and find valuable cards in your deck like Steward of Gondor, Vilya, Gandalf's Staff, Elven-light, Sword that was Broken, Narya, etc., and use them from turn 2. A side benefit is that you'd no longer need to add 3 copies of these cards to find them faster when you can find them asap with almost 100% certainty. In the future, I'll definitely consider building a deck around these possibilities.

For this specific deck though, as the main side quest, I chose The Storm Comes. I love powerful allies, but they're costly, specially for multi-sphere decks. That is no longer an issue thanks to this side quest. The chosen allies offer a multitude of abilities and stats; defense, attack, will power, scrying, direct damage, location control, card draw. For resource generation, we'll take advantage of secrecy and thus Resourceful is added, as well as the classic Steward of Gondor. If you don't like to (over)use this last card, rest assured in knowing that this deck can perfectly work without it, so feel free to remove and replace it.

So: Heroes with very high will power to clear side quests asap. The Storm Comes in the victory display to play all the cool allies you want without concerning about matching resources. High will power + cool allies is an ideal combination for Elf-stone, so we'll add 3 copies of those (they help with resources' consumption as well).

Thurindir + The Storm Comes VS Elrond + Vilya

A discussion that needs to happen. Elrond + Vilya feels overall superior, so when we exchange those for Thurindir and The Storm Comes, we need to take advantage of the benefits this last combo brings. In my opinion, the main advantage is the reduced threat and the opportunity to begin in secrecy (mostly for Resourceful, arguably the 2nd best resource generator after Steward of Gondor). A second important advantage is that Thurindir + The Storm Comes is a guaranteed combo which doesn't need mulligans, opposed to Vilya which needs 3 copies most of the time and may take some turns to setup depending on luck with your opening hand.

Hope you enjoy the deck and that it makes you consider Thurindir in the future and the possibilities his ability brings!
