I love Beorn! But I don't play him much, and I developed this deck to change that. The big worry is of course when the big bear finally dies. This deck includes a number of options to hold that off as long as possible, starting with Honour Guard. Beorn's Rage is also quite helpful, as is Keep Watch. Frodo Baggins can also fill in capably, absorbing undefended attacks when necessary.

With Frodo as a safety blanket, a big task is to keep your threat low. Merry is exceptional at this. The other options revolve around a traditional Hobbit Pipe deck and a host of threat-reducing events.

A fun aspect of this deck is that you will rarely exhaust a character to defend! That's right! Between Beorn, Vigilant Dúnadan, and of course Frodo, there will really be no need.

Sailor of Lune is a hidden gem. You will almost always have an event on top of your discard pile so his ability will be consistently activated. This allows for some fun shenanigans during the quest phase. Hobbit Pony allows some similar ideas, and helps Merry to be more versatile.

Finally the elephant in the room. What happens when Beorn inevitably gets taken out? Luckily our hobbits have brought along plenty of Good Meal's, and they go down a lot better with a taste of Fortune or Fate.

This deck is pretty powerful. Where it can struggle is taking down multiple enemies in one combat phase. That said, if you can reliably draw into your deck you should have no problem. Just make sure to mulligan for card draw. is no issue, you'll be able to reliably quest for ~15 each round during the mid to late game.

Note: I did check beforehand, and this is the only published deck with this hero combination. A bit surprising, but it works quite well and if you enjoy the traditional hobbit turtling deck then you'll probably like this one as well.

Note II: I tried a variation of this deck where I swapped the side-quest aspect for a Mithril Shirt and Vigilant Guard combo. Ultimately I found this too clunky and slow, since Mithril Shirt threw of the pacing of the deck and Mighty Warrior needed to be drawn before Frodo could accept Vigilant Guard.

I like the concept. It may inspire more research for using hero Beorn. The principle seems fun and handy, with a convenient use of Hobbits threat reduction and draw to balance and make the Beorning more playable. Nevertheless I'm a little skeptical about the general stats (a willpower pretty thin during several tiens, not many allies for seconding Beorn in case of big ennemies or multiple ennemies, no emergency defender if Frodo is overflowed), the lack of healing against archery and the lack of resources generation. It would take some time to have enough questing allies in order to complete Keep Watch, so most of the time I wouldn't benefit from that side-quest during the critical three early rounds... I keep thinking about a way to fill that gaps (and I wait for queslogs :-))

@Troglo All good points. The big thing for this deck is that the first three turns are designed to sort of “take it on the chin”. Beorn will tank enemies, Frodo will absorb damage. Any threat raises will be easily dealt with a few turns down the road. I agree though that early game there is a lack of power, so too many enemies can be problematic.

will not be an issue after the first couple turns. The same thing with . It does take a dedicated turtling strategy though.

There’s also quite a bit of pseudo defense with Honor Guard, Frodo, Sailor of Lune, and Fortune or Fate. I haven’t had an issue, but then I also haven’t played it against the more direct damage heavy quests in the game.
