Description
This is another fellowship continuing on in my goal to play through all of the quests in release order to learn how all (or most) of the cards interact with one another. The first fellowship for the quests in the core set can be found here, and it contains a slightly more detailed overview of what I'm going for with building these decks. As always, any feedback is appreciated so that I can continue to learn more!
In the last quest I didn't mind using Glóin and Caldara because I didn't really care for the quest and just wanted to try those archetypes here. No such misgivings for the Pelennor here, I just went with two of the strongest decks that I could possible build. This quest doesn't mess around, so I figured that I wouldn't either.
The Gandalf is pretty straightforward, and relies on Wizard Pipe to set up Elrond and Vilya. Steward of Gondor should also go on Elrond to help fund all of the expensive allies (hopefully you can get two of them in for free thanks to quest effects as well as Vilyaing them in). If Denethor can get a Gondorian Shield from the other deck then he can function as a pretty capable defender in addition to jumpstarting with his resources. This would free up Gandalf to help do some damage once you can get Shadowfax onto him. The Armored Destrier is for Beregond on the other side of the table to help get those Wraiths on Wings or Mumaks out of the Staging Area early on. If you can get Beregond up and running early, the whole quest gets a lot easier thanks to being able to just chip away at those enemies and not care about their threat.
The other deck is pretty standard fare. Eowyn and Glorfindel quest and Beregond defends, then hopefully a few weapons can get onto Glorfindel so he can kill off most enemies and help Eowyn take out a Wraith with her big attack. Once Aragorn can get both of his Artifact attachments the quest gets a lot easier. I was able to put 25 damage out to enemies in Stage 4 and burn through Stage 5 in one round thanks to those large global Willpower boosts. Card draw can be a bit of an issue, but the other deck should be able to help out with a Expert Treasure-hunter or Gandalf's Staff if it isn't needed for Shadow cancellation.
