The Dead Marshes - Progression

nttArc 237

Description

We decided to take 2 spirit decks for lots of cancellation of all the treacheries, Eleanor too. Then choose the hobbits so we could fast hitch them. With the escape tests there is even more reason for action advantage with fast hitch, unexpected courage, et cetera. We wanted to start with lower threat so Eleanor and hobbits worked out well. We avoided a couple of the "if you have 35 threat or higher" treacheries this way and were able to leave a few of the low threat nasty enemies in the staging area because we kept our threat lower than their engagement cost (i.e. the worm). This scenario ended up being fairly easy even though these are admittedly not so optimized decks. The Leadership flavor we splashed in didn't even come up because we never grabbed the song. We did get Eleanor killed, although not our fault, shadow effect that discards an exhausted ally came up when I defended with Gleowine and he was the only exhausted ally, this caused the attack to resolve undefended and I had no choice but to kill Eleanor. This being said, we pushed for the win on the next round.

I played The Dead Marshes last night for the first time and used your fellowship decks. I beat the scenario in five rounds (unless I lost track, 5 seems too quick). Very nice decks! Or maybe I just got lucky, lol. I started playing LOTR LCG about six months ago, so I appreciate folks like you who post good decks for each scenario. Thanks for posting this!

It was fun planning out which attachments should go on which characters, and what my strategy will be for the various allies and events. I made a few minor changes to suit my tastes and because I am not too concerned about playing Progression style. Henamarth Riversong was replaced with Warden of Healing (x2) and Haldir of Lórien (x1); I added Defender of the West to go with Haldir and Gildor; Quick Strike was replaced with Hands Upon the Bow primarily to prevent two Goblin Snipers from being permanently perched in the staging area; Horn of Gondor was replaced by the Necklace of Girion, for Éowyn; I changed up the Tactics allies to try Dúnedain Hunter and Westfold Outrider; and a few other changes that I cannot recall right now. Eleanor came in handy a few times on some nasty treacheries (I did not draw any Test of Will, argh!), and with Favor of the Lady she was great on the escape tests. The action advantage cards really helped beat this scenario (UC, FH, and HB).

@Smiticusthanks for trying out our decks, glad this one worked out for you (with your few tweaks) ! We've actually only been playing since Jan 2019. We prefer the progression style of play so I actually don't know some of the cards you swapped in. Maybe we will have access to those cards once we get to the nightmare version of the scenario and I can look at your changes for ideas. I hope you keep trying our decks and keep letting us know how they work out for you ! Although due to work and kids limiting our play time, you may end up passing us by.

@nttArc I definitely plan to keep an eye out for decks you post as I progress through the scenarios and cycles. I am going at a slow pace and playing each scenario a couple of times with different builds. So maybe by the end of next summer I will have Dwarrowdelf complete. That's my goal! And maybe I will start posting/sharing some of my own fellowships.
