This deck represents the armies of dwarves under Dáin Ironfoot, the elves of the kingdom of Thranduil, the Eagles of the Misty Mountains, and Beorn, led by Gandalf the Grey. It's a largely thematic deck, but built with an eye towards beating The Battle of Five Armies from the second Hobbit Saga box. Legolas pushes the theme a bit, but Thranduil is a really poor fit, and Legolas' ability is incredibly useful for this quest, as any progress on a stage prevents its negative effect from occurring. Putting that progress on after killing an enemy works even if you under-quest, or if the enemies remove progress from the quest when revealed or attack.

Note: I run this deck in a fellowship with a Dwarf deck using Nori, and so I do not run the Nori ally. If you have Nori available, his ally version would swap in nicely for Azain Silverbeard, though this deck is only a partial mining deck and so doesn't burn through its card pool all that quickly.

Second note: If you do not have any weapon treasure cards to power up Gandalf and Legolas, I'd recommend swapping out Stand and Fight and a Erebor Guard for some weapons.

As for the other cards of note:

  • The Eagles, Vassal of the Windlord and Winged Guardian are here for battle and siege questing respectively, where they are absolute stars. They are also particularly useful here since you can get them into play even when discarding all of your resources every turn (though the Winged Guardian requires getting it on top of your deck in order to use Gandalf's resource.
  • Beorn is largely here for thematic purposes, but is the prime target for Stand and Fight.
  • Steward of Gondor can be brought in either using Gandalf's ability, or through Reforged.
  • The Galadriel's Handmaiden represents the woodland elves (slightly against theme), but plays two key roles in the deck: one is keeping the threat down if you can't afford The Galadhrim's Greeting, and the other is boosting your questing power for taking down quest stage 2B.
  • Zigil Miner is some extra resource acceleration, can pitch in on any of the three quest types, and is a useful chump defender if the goblins start to get out of control.

Otherwise, the basic strategy is to build up a balanced board of all three questing types - willpower, attack, and defense, with three very strong heroes to lead the way in combat. Use Wizard Pipe to help use Gandalf's resources, and to put Hidden Cache and Ered Luin Miner on top of the deck before using Dain's defensive ability, or before paying for Erebor Guard.

Cool deck, have you considered adding Narya? It can help to boost some allies for combat and helps pay for Steward of Gondor.

Thanks for the feedback! I did have Narya in an earlier version of the deck, but kept finding that I wanted to use all of Gandalf's readies for his own stats. Partly it's because the allies in this deck are not particularly strong. The only really solid Narya target is Erebor Guard, as I try to avoid using the Eagles for anything except battle/siege questing until the very end of the quest. When Gandalf has the treasure Glamdring on, I most often found myself using his 5 attack twice, since you get to draw a card each time you kill an orc.

I think Narya becomes much more attractive if you don't have the treasures and are using lesser weapons, and/or you are pairing the deck with another one with powerful allies.

Since you focus on Legolas' response, have you considered adding Blade of Gondolin and Ravens of the Mountain? Blade of Gondolin would have Legolas contributing 3 progress tokens instead of two.

Ravens of the Mountain can be played during any player action window, but if you are finding you have a hero still ready at the end of the Combat phase or even during the Refresh or Resource phases if you can readily ready the hero, that could be a few more progress tokens to the quest.

Both cards would be completely thematic for that quest. It is completely possible that elves of Mirkwood had Gondolin blades into the 3rd age. Ravens of the Mountains (think Roac the Raven) in calling on Dain.
