So this multiplayer deck was born out of the realization that I always put the same restricted attachments on Beregond: Gondorian Shield and (Spear of the Citadel or Armored Destrier). And truth be told, these are probably the best restricted attachments for him. But I was bored and wanted to try something new so I looked through the restricted attachments that his discount be applied to.

I decided on Citadel Plate. It doesn't get much use outside of Gimli or Glóin decks. The reason for this is of course that 4 resources is a lot to pay for 4 hit points. But with Beregond, they would only cost 2. Does this reduction make them more viable? I wanted to find out.

I put Beregond with Denethor and Erestor, a common pairing for people who have been following my deckbuilding habits. But this time it's different. I'm not using them to churn out a ton of willpower - I'm using them to quickly dig for hitpoint-boosting attachments for Beregond.

Erestor draws a lot of cards. Fortunately, whenever he draws into a plate you can play it, because even if Beregond was drained of resources last round, Denethor can pass him one.

All told, Beregond is going to have a mighty pool of hitpoints:

Now what do we do with all these hitpoints? We will have him soak up damage that occurs all over the board with Vigilant Guard and Song of Mocking (or just regular archery damage), until he's inches from death, then heal him all in one go with Healing Herbs or Athelas.

So rather than using Beregond as a defender for the whole table by stacking him with readying, we us him as a huge damage sponge. For example, you might declare attacks against you undefended and assign the damage to Beregond, then use him to defend an attack against player 2, then have him use Song of Mocking to absorb an undefended attack against player, 3, etc. Then exhaust Erestor+Healing Herbs or Ioreth+Athelas and make it all go away.

Attacking

Since this deck doesn't offer much by way of questing, you will depended on to kill enemies. To do this, we select only the most efficient ranges attackers. Greenwood Archers are really easy to play, especially on turns you draw them with Captain's Wisdom. And of course with card's like Wealth of Gondor, Gaining Strength, Errand-rider, and Denethor himself, getting resources on Beregon to play the is not difficult either.

Summary

Overall this deck is great if you want to experiment with a new way of dealing with enemy attacks in a multiplayer game. It definitely makes the combat calculus more interesting than readying Beregond a bunch of times, although that method is probably still easier and more effective.

Enjoy!

I love the idea of finding alternative solutions to defense and damage assignment. I'll have to try it out. One sad point is that Vigilant Guard is Limit 1 per Character.

I believe in his breakdown above the +2 was for hit points and not copies of vigilant guard on Beregond. And if you want to just soak up even more damage Gondorian Discipline and Honor Guard are never bad either.
