WanderingTook 1382
Who brought healing? You did.
Who brought ranged and sentinel support? You did.
Who brought emergency card draw? You did.
Who made lots of friends tonight? You did.
Synopsis
A combat-focused deck, built to assist quest-heavy decks in getting through weather-heavy quests of the Angmar Awakened cycle. For best results, pair with a deck that specializes in questing and ranged support.
Design
This deck has been carefully crafted to ensure a proper balance of defense and attack power, and even supplies a healthy dose of Sentinel and Ranged support.
With three copies each of Warden of Healing and Honour Guard, you will be protecting the table in more ways than one.
Strategy
-
Mulligan for Master of the Forge. A first-turn Tighten Our Belts is gravy.
-
Aragorn gets the Swords of Númenor, Dúnedain Marks, and Rohan Warhorses.
-
Erkenbrand gets the Dúnedain Warnings.
-
The Crams are split between Aragorn and Erkenbrand as needed. Sharing is caring.
-
The Wardens of Healing and Honour Guards keep Erkenbrand alive while he defends across the table. In a pinch, the Guardians of Arnor can assist, and if all hell breaks loose, Hold Your Ground! can ready them all.
-
There are not a lot of cards in this deck, and that is intentional. Bifur's stockpile can be spent readying Wardens of Healing, or saving the day with Lórien's Wealth. Seriously, in multiplayer games, someone's deck will be floundering, and a Lórien's Wealth will never go unappreciated.
- Ranger Summons is surprisingly good in this deck. Since Ranger of the North has the Sentinel keyword, you can get a free action out of him in Valour mode with Hold Your Ground! His ranged support is also useful, especially when facing beefy enemies, like in Across the Ettenmoors.
Sideboard
-
An early Tighten Our Belts really helps get this deck going, so an extra copy is not a bad idea.
-
Deep Knowledge is always awesome; use it as you see fit.
-
Steward of Gondor does wonders on Erkenbrand, but was relegated to the Sideboard to make the deck more multiplayer-friendly. If you can get a first-turn Tighten Our Belts, you won't need Steward of Gondor anyways.
-
Everyone seems to be running Quickbeam these days. Just in case they're not, keep a couple copies in your back pocket.
- Second Breakfast helps protect against attachment hate, and can also get back your precious Crams. Not a bad include, but not good enough to make it into the main deck.
As for what to take out: Miner of the Iron Hills, Secret Vigils, and Gandalf are all contingency plan cards. Swap them out as needed for Sideboard cards.
Performance
I've played this deck quite a number of times in two-player games, and always with a different partner deck. It trounces The Weather Hills and Across the Ettenmoors.
It has also made me lots of friends.
