This is the official deck released for Riders of Rohan - Starter Deck released 2022-03-11.

"Arise, arise, riders of Theoden!" - The Return of the King

This starter pack contains everything you need to play a Rohan-themed Deck for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

Playing the Rohirrm Starter Deck

The Rohirrim are renowned for their cavalry, and this deck is built to mimic the idea of a cavalry charge: characters who will charge into danger, strike powerfully against the enemy, then withdraw from the engagement quickly via self-discard effects.

Your heroes lean into this idea, with Lothírielputting characters into play during the quest phase. Then, when the character leaves play due to the expiration of Lothíriel's ability, Éomercan gain an impressive attack bonus for the remainder of the round.

Combos like this drive the deck, along with cards like Éomundand Westfold Horse-breederthat have their own "enters play" and"leaves play" effects. When playing with a Rohirrim Deck, you should expect to have seen a large portion of it by the end of the game.

Because the deck is so reliant on the abilities of its heroes, you'll need to take extra care to protect them. Defend against enemy attacks with allies such as Westfold Outrider to prevent damage to your heroes and activate Éomer's ability.

Alternatively, if you're running a little short on spare allies, you can use Feint to prevent those attacks from occurring at all.

Further, because you will frequently be discarding your own characters to use your "leaves play" abilities, take care that you do not run of out cards. Horn of the Markand Ancient Mathomare both good options for keeping cards in your hand.

New Rules

Valour is a trigger that appears on some player cards. Actions and Responses with the Valour trigger, presented as "Valour Action" or "Valour Response" can onl y be triggered by a player whose threat is 40 or higher.

I think if you got both both this deck and the Gondor starter deck, making a lineup of Lothiriel, Eomer, and Prince Imrahil would be really good with just core set + starters.

This not really a good solo deck... Or a good deck at all really. There doesn't seem to be a Defender.

I guess it's relying on chumping for defense, to trigger Eomer?

Or just in Lothiriel's ability. Put an ally into play, and shuffle into deck at the end of the quest phase, it has "leaved play" so, it triggers Eomer.

Lothiriel's ability is only the quest phase, so while that will trigger Eomer's ability, it doesn't help the deck defend.

Agree with @AutumnRose here. Very much a lot of synergies with Core + Starters. I think it is the weaker of the four but still fun to show what is possbile.

I think even an Erkenbrand and some armor attachments may have helped.

I think when we get closer to release date we will get more design theory, I hope, from Caleb and MJ.

Either way - enjoy.

Yeah, I think the design theory here was mostly “we can’t use cards from the LotR sagas.” So without things like Snowmane, Golden Shield, Herugrim, Gamling, etc, etc this was basically the best deck they could make. Not even really a point including Théoden if you can’t include any of the toys that make him decent. Erkenbrand is great, but there aren’t many Leadership Rohan cards they could include in the pack, so I guess they prioritized getting as many of the allies they could in here.

Rohan discard was the worst of the four archetypes they built starters for, but then also had the unfortunate problem of being the most hamstrung by which packs Caleb could use to build the decks also.

Oh, sure, I misread and only keep the part of trigering Eomer, not the defending one.

Should have skipped the archetype and done so thing stronger like the Minstrel deck. Lol. I’ve played it 5 times and I’ve got through Mirkwood twice. Without meaningful card draw, resource acceleration or a defender, this deck is going to be a rough go for new players.

@Shellin what makes you think they couldn't use saga cards? Was it stated somewhere? Dwarves of Durin draws heavily from The Hobbit expansions

Mar 06, 2022 Shellin 2722

@MarvelsTold Yeah, they used a decent number of cards from the two Hobbit boxes, but zero cards from any of the six LotR boxes in any of the four starter decks. Someone on the Facebook group posted an analysis of which packs the cards came from and it is pretty clear they didn’t want to include those Saga boxes or the Angmar, Dream-chaser, and Ered Mithrin cycles in these packs. Only one card total across the four decks came from those sets.

While I never played Rohan deck, I do see few issues. One, I do not think there is enough card draw to fuel Lothiriel's ability. And there is no defender, so if you are playing quest where you have to engage lot of enemires, then you may end up chumpblocking way too much, which is waste of resources. And will get you in trouble. And means Lothiriel's ability would likely have to be skipped all together.

@Ageolite Ancient Mathom, Horn of the Mark, and the built in search seems like decent draw for a starter deck. Lothiriel looks more incidental at first, but with over half the deck being allies and shuffle being part of her ability, it should be neat, if not good. The deck may not be ideal for solo (1 hand), or as an all comers build, but it's probably fine and fun as a mp for the 5 relaunched scenarios. After that, buy more cards and improve the deck.

I attempted to make my own version of this deck. I'm not sure how great it will be, but swapping Hirgon for Fastred to have a dedicated defender seemed like the good first choice.
