The CotR gang came up with an idea to create a 5th starter for new players buying the repackaged content.

I decided to lean on my experience playing my Progression Series and focusing on cards new players are not getting re-prints of that they must be missing the most.

I looked at the player cards from the first 3 cycles, Hobbit boxes, Harad cycle, and finally the last cycle in the long life of this amazing game. It became apparent to me that these new players are missing out on some really important and often played cards. Especially in Lore.

My deck features just Lore and Tactic cards with a few key neutral allies. New players will never get an eagle card except Meneldor. They will get access to Radagast and wonder what exactly they are suppose to do with him?

This deck would not be the first deck you would buy if you just got into the game. In fact, you might discount it at first. But...once you get the Fellowship f the Ring box or Angmar Awakened player cards, you would be rushing back to your FLGS hoping this was still there.

Gwaihir is here, with so many eagle allies he should be able to ready easily. Even during the quest phase thanks to Hirgon. While doing this write-up I now realize he was also in the RIders of Rohan starter...because Rohan is such a mess two of the 3 heroes are NOT ROHAN!!!! Honestly...Hama or Theoden or Eowyn would have been better options for that deck. He slots in much better here, oh well, my bad.

Folco Boffin keeps your threat low all game and give you a chance to play some of the powerful Lore cards new players are missing. WIth this deck you get Fast Hitch, Warden of Healing, Deep Knowledge, Aragorn as an alternate, Hail of Stones (which is amazing with those cheap eagles), and Unseen Strike. Finally Beorn is here.

Also, Treebeard. New players do not get Treebeard?!?! A couple other ents join the party as well. Along with Master of the Forge, Gandalf, and Firyal. So many cards new players want in one set.

Sorry about the Hirgon mix up, honestly the Rohan starter is the last one I would buy out of the original 4, so perhaps it is not that big of a deal to have him appear twice. I do think he fits this deck better than the Rohan one....because he IS NOT ROHAN!
