DECK NAME - Lamers

https://youtu.be/39eg5csbkbI

OVERVIEW - The same hero lineup that worked so well for the first Shadow and Flame quest seems to be the best trio for this NM version. In fact, the original deck would work well if not for the Blazing Grip shadow card. We'll need to keep our at 0 for close to 10 rounds to keep from engaging the Balrog until we're ready (kinda lame but hey it works). Lots of interesting decisions to be made with this deck. Hope you enjoy!

HEROES

STRATEGY

  • OPENING HAND - hard mulligan for Elrond's Counsel; other good cards are Galadhrim Minstrel, Resourceful, A Test of Will, and Risk Some Light
  • STAGE ONE - turtle here until you get your board state set up
  • STAGE TWO - commit such that you don't make progress on the quest as the forced effect will place 4 progress anyway; then attack the Balrog so if your creeps above 0 in order to make stage 3 that much easier; before you advance make sure Elrond is ready for the Balrog's attack from the "when revealed" on the 3rd quest card and that your isn't at 0
  • STAGE THREE - after the Balrog attacks when advancing (make sure your ) isn't at 0 so Silver Lamp will work) you can drop down to 0 if needed before combat; should be easy to defeat the Balrog at this point; if your deck is empty just play Risk Some Light and then use Scroll of Isildur to insure you have a card to draw for the Refresh Action on Dark Pit
  • Galadhrim Minstrel - so clutch for grabbing a Risk Some Light or A Test of Will for round 1
  • Scroll of Isildur - can be used to play a crucial event from the discard pile
  • Silver Lamp - important to have attached to Elrond (w Song of Travel and Light of Valinor) before the Balrog attacks; if the shadow card is Blazing Grip you can just chump with one of 3 2- allies rather than defend with Elrond
  • Needful to Know - this coupled with Elrond's Counsel will serve to keep our at 0; use Henamarth Riversong or Risk Some Light to set this up
  • Risk Some Light - nothing better than playing round one; this card primarily exists to thwart Captain of Mordor which is the most problematic card in the encounter deck
