"I have had a hard life and a long; and the leagues that lie between here and Gondor are a small part in the count of my journeys. I have crossed many mountains and many rivers, and trodden many plains, even into the far countries of Rhûn and Harad where the stars are strange." --Aragorn, the Fellowship of the Ring
A new alt-art starter deck
This new alt-art starter deck focuses on the far-travelers, the exiles, and the drifters of Middle Earth and contains only cards that are likely never to see an official re-print. Expand your Revised-Only cardpool with the Harad and the side quest archetypes, and get additional support for rangers and nobles.
Harad
The goal for the Harad archetype is to get out Kahliel's trusted companions--Firyal, Jubayr, and Yazan. These incredibly powerful allies are also extremely expensive, so it can be a challenge to play them. Use Thurindir to fetch The Storm Comes and make it so all your heroes can pay for those expensive allies, not just Kahliel, then use the resource acceleration events to get the resources you need.
Side Quests
The Angmar Awakened expansion introduced side quests, but it didn't flesh out the deck archetype that focuses on them. Thurindir is the lynchpin in such a deck, and uses tools like Halfast Gamgee, Halfling Bounder, Rider of Rohan, Legacy Blade, and The Road Goes Ever On to maximize their payoff and consistency.
Customizing the Deck
There are many routes you can go with customizing this deck or adding these cards into a larger cardpool. You can synergize the Harad archetype with other trait-based archetypes with The Last Alliance, for example. Tweak the side quests by including ones included in Angmar Awakened, or try Thurindir with other hero combinations. This starter deck also includes two additional heroes for customization options: the twin sons of Elrond, Elladan and Elrohir. These two heroes work well with the other cards included in this pack, especially Steed of the North, Shining Shield, Dunedain Mark, and Dunedain Warning. They even bring a couple tactics toys of their own!

Also I think maybe you missed the mission statement of this deck: it can only include cards that are not reprinted in revised content (nor will ever be reprinted). Those cards you listed would certainly help this deck, but can't be included because they are in revised reprints. One of the fun things about starter decks though is exploring how to improve them in a wider card pool! :) |
Nov 27, 2023@racism, i think u have not much knowledge of tolkien-lore.. and to think of me as racist of cause i know the books is poor.... i think that tolkien lore is kind of racist in that world, but that is the lore most tolkien-fans accept and does not make you a racist. only non-rev. content. well chosen then. :) |
Nov 27, 2023Yes it does make you a racist to think POC shouldn't be "good people" in Middle-earth. |
Nov 27, 2023Thank you so much for making these decks Autumn! I’m sure I’m talking for a lot of the revised core players but we all really appreciate you going through the effort of alt-arts, deck creation and then making them super easy to order |
Nov 27, 2023"The enemy? His sense of duty was no less than yours, I deem. You wonder what his name is, where he came from. And if he was really evil at heart. What lies or threats led him on this long march from home. If he would not rather have stayed there in peace. War will make corpses of us all." --Faramir I would argue that adding playable Harad characters is understanding Tolkien's writing on a deeper and more nuanced level. Just because some of the peoples of the East were tricked into fighting for Sauron does not make them evil. That would be as lazy of an argument as saying that because Boromir succumbed to the lure of the ring therefore everyone from Gondor was evil. Good and evil are far more complicated concepts than that, something which Tolkien repeatedly highlights in his writing. |
Nov 27, 2023Ah, movies muddling a bear's head. They gave that line to Faramir. The original is Sam's internal monologue, but the sentiment is the same: "He wondered what the man's name was and where he came from; and if he was really evil of heart, or what lies or threats had led him on the long match from his home; and if he would not really rather have stayed there in peace." |
Nov 29, 2023Thank you so much for all you do, Autumn! Being a fairly new player these starter decks are such a treasure! Can’t wait to get this one printed :) |

Feb 18, 2024Love the art in this deck! Thank you |
Jun 14, 2024Really appreciate the work here! |
like the art u make specially the haradart, even i do not like them in middleearth as "good" people ;) . the deck itself, not very efficient in my eyes. to much expensive cards and not much res-acceleration (yes u have Tighten Our Belts and Gaining Strength but not so much carddraw to get them early if ever) it seems to me u leave Steward of Gondor intentionally ( not effective and since you are not in (tolkien-)theme why not taking it...) if taking the steward (on Kahliel ) then Wealth of Gondor would be also good.
Elf-stone could also help you to get expensive allies in and thinking about A Very Good Tale makes allways sense having leadership.
