There are 3 cards that I consider to be key. Mulligan if you do not have Vilya, Radagast, or the Wizard Pipe. With Vilya being the most important card to have.
Beorn defends/attacks
Bilbo Baggins is present mainly for the card draw and questing.
Elrond is used to quest.
The idea is to use Radagast with a Wizard Pipe to give you some control over Elrond's ability with his ring.
After that, things get interesting. Play Dori so that he can absorb damage that Beorn would take. Give him the Sword-thain so that he becomes a hero. Then the Daughter of the Nimrodel can heal him. This essentially allows you to heal Beorn. If you can manage it, give Dori a Citadel Plate and you should be good to go.
Use Radagast to buy Landroval as a "Plan B" if Beorn dies for some reason.
Give Elrond Unexpected Courage so that you can essentially buy cards for free with the Wizard Pipe.

Mar 16, 2017+1 for the ballsy composition ! Bilbo should be a 6 to 7 hero (reason why i do not play him) Radagast should cost 3 (reason why i never play nor played him aswell) Starting at 34 is not going to be easy on every quest, but i salute the ballsy idea here ^^ As Beorn mentionned, i would strongly suggest having those Honour Guard, wich are great to help our Lovely beast to survive ! I would also think about at least 1 "Revive" event, like house of healing, wich you could afford easly once you get a pipe and vilya in play. So you could revive beorn without sacrifying Landro.. calri..val ! Have fun ! ;) |
Mar 16, 2017I've been playing around with this some more. I've swapped out Elrond for Pippin and have removed Radagast, the Wizard Pipe, Vilya, unexpected courage, sword-thain, and daughter of nimrodel. Then I've added Fast Hitch, Horn of Gondor, Elf-Stone, Self-Preservation, Song of Battle, Song of Travel, Rivendell Minstrel, and the Honour Guard. My preliminary testing seems to show that this is an easier build to get going. While getting the uber Dori was pretty cool, it seemed to only work 50 percent of the time. |
Mar 16, 2017Also removed the Citadel Plates |

I give this deck two paws way up. If you have the Wastes of Eriador AP, you might consider having Honour Guard in the sideboard. They help a lot for quests with a lot of direct damage or powerful enemies while you get Dori setup. Between Dori and Honour Guard you should have no problem keeping the big bear alive. I appreciate how Daughter of the Nimrodel, Dori and Elrond all interact, once you have the Sword-thain on the Dwarf.
