I threw together a deck with this contract at the last minute for the recent Con of The Ring in Minnesota, and was pleasantly surprised. I had not messed around with this contract yet, and wanted a deck that could help out in multiplayer games. It functions well as a utility deck as it can be piloted focusing on buffing up the heroes, or for ally swarm, or making a Voltron ally or two (looking at you, Guardian of Esgaroth).
The deck has built in action advantage (with the contract in the first three turns or from Lanwyn's ability), economy (with the discount of King of Dale), and card draw (with Brand son of Bain's ability). Lanwyn arrives ranged, and and Brand son of Bain can gain sentinel if the table needs it.
The flipping of the contract in turn 4 allows tutoring of what’s needed: more questing with Strider or Celebrían's Stone, more readying with Unexpected Courage or Armored Destrier, or more attack with Valiant Sword, more economy with a King of Dale, or if you can’t decide maybe a Magic Ring.
For good measure, there is a touch of healing (Dúnedain Remedy; the only major missing element is threat reduction.
This deck pulled its weight against a variety of scenario types in the Saga Campaign.

Oct 12, 2024I think she's a versatile hero; I bet very fun with Widest and Haldan. Contract-wise, I only use the damage if I can finish off an enemy or need an extra defense to stay alive. Otherwise I'm just trying to stay afloat until flipping. I have done 0-3, but probably most commonly had 0-1 damage on Brand (to allow Lanwyn to quest and attack) and most commonly 1-2 damage on Lanwyn (to allow Brand to quest and then defend). It's very situational since it's a once per round action. I do look for some kind of action advatage in my opening hand (Unexpected Courage, then Strider or Armored Destrier. Also, having the North Realm Lookout with a Spare Hood and Cloak let's them quest for 3, then ready one of the heroes. Also, somewhat related: when a cloak is parked on a hero but hasn't been exhausted that turn, I have done damage via the contract at the end of the round to send the cloak back to a naked Lookout if one is on the table, which gives a card draw from Brand's ability and sets up a free ready for the future. |
Oct 12, 2024This deck was blowing my mind at Con of the Rings! |
I have Lanwyn in a Widfast + Haldan deck at the moment that I'm loving, but when I break that down I'm certainly building this. Looks very unusual and fun to pilot.
How much damage do you deal to your heroes when you're in rounds 1-3 typically?
