DECK NAME - Slow to Rouse
OVERVIEW - This deck has answers for the various ways the NM version of Druadan Forest is trying to trip us up: 1) resource production, 2) archery soak, 3) early punishing combat scenarios, and 4) siege questing in stage 3. Excited to make use of the limited Ents that are available at this point in the progression. A combination of this deck having a sense of slowly ramping up and a quote about Ents from Tolkien's work is the inspiration for the deck name.
HEROES
- Aragorn - attach Steward of Gondor and Sword that was Broken; his reduction will be all we need
- Glóin - his response will be extremely helpful once we can clear Garden of Poisons
- Gríma - his action is a crucial counter to the resource limitations of this quest (NOTE: I often try to keep him at 0 resources to keep Men in the Dark from surging)
STRATEGY
- OPENING HAND - mostly you want to see card draw, but Treebeard is great to see as well as are Galadhrim Minstrel, Henamarth Riversong and Feigned Voices for possible early combat
- STAGE 1 - we will spend a quite a few rounds here and semi-turtle; it's important to clear Garden of Poisons in round 2 and start gaining resources; be careful not to spend all of Glóin's resources or you will have to wait on archery damage to be able to put out our attachments
- STAGE 2 - good to spend as many resources as possible before advancing here for the positive NM effect
- STAGE 3 - a win is a shoo-in by the time we get here; be sure to have ready characters before advancing
CARDS
- ENT CARDS - Get Treebeard out asap and then use Gríma's action to put out one Ent a round; the resource restriction applies to heroes only; try put archery damage on various Ents so that Booming Ents attack for as much as +7 each
- Errand-rider - a super helpful early chump that is safe against a damage-inducing shadow effect; also helps us move resources around
- Galadhrim Minstrel - gets us those important events and is my preferred target for Feigned Voices so I can repeat the response
- Henamarth Riversong - use action before questing; also can use with Feigned Voices
- Warden of Healing - provides all the healing needed for this quest
- Sword that was Broken - playing round 1 is not a bad thing at all!
- Feigned Voices - pretty obvious uses; Galadhrim Minstrel is preferred but Henamarth Riversong is free with Gríma's action
- Strider's Path - multiple playthroughs has convinced me this card is a must for this deck (NOTE: we will get the free resourced BEFORE the when revealed of stage 1B, so if you have a Strider's Path in hand you make consider pushing the location revealed during setup into the active location slot)
- We Are Not Idle - might as well include all 3; gives Galadhrim Minstrel a better chance of succeeding and replaces itself with/without exhausting Glóin; if you get it in hand early just play it rather than waiting for Garden of Poisons to leave play, but once GoP is gone, it's a free resource if you're able to exhaust Gloin
I love the way you blend creativity with effectiveness in so many of these decks. This looks like an absolute blast to play :).
