The Purple Wizard 1227

This was an oddball deck I made many years back that has somehow stood the test of time and I use when I when I want to throw a mid-level deck at a quest in playtesting to see how it fares.

The core idea here is that almost all of the willpower is in the starting heroes and almost all of the combat is in the deck, so this turns the normal rhythms of your gameplay on its head. Your starting heroes quest for 10 and should do so every round, but you likely won't get over 15 at any point in the game so you can't allow yourself to get location locked or you won't get out. Still, 10 willpower is quite sturdy each round, especially from the start, and it's your combat you need to focus on right away.

I look for an early defensive solution in my first hand, ideally a Defender of Rammas. Maybe Círdan the Shipwright can defend safely for a round or two with an early Light of Valinor. Once you get Raiment of War on either Defender of Rammas or Déorwine you'll be pretty set for defense, especially when Cirdan gets Narya up and running. You'll have to build your offense up slowly too, but if you can get a few rounds in without getting overrun you should have plenty of tools to handle any enemies in the deck.

There's nothing too fancy here, just a meat and potatoes deck where the rhythm of playing is a bit different than normal. It's a fun changeup to play every now and again.

As Cirdan seems not to have many ways to spend its resources, do you think it could be convenient to add Glorfindel and say Elven-light, or maybe Parting Gifts to help the sphere ?

seems to be original content only, nevertheless i would add 1 Windfola (u have in your sideboard) and 1 Silver Circlet would cut Déorwine for it he is to expensive.

1 Quick Strike is always a good option if playing with Éowyn

@Troglo There's definitely room to play around with the deck list, but I haven't found Cirdan hoarding too many resources to be a real problem here. If he winds up with extra, you can always pay for a Gandalf straight up with him. But between Cirdan's extra card and Legolas' card draw, Elven Light isn't really needed.

@doomguard The thing I like about Deorwine is his capacity to cancel shadow effects, which I haven't included any other way. This is dependent on getting Narya into play first so between the two of them it's a late-game effect, but it's another way to spend Cirdan's resources if you have some extra.

Thinking about it now, I'd cut Deorwine down to 2 copies since it's more of a later game card and throw something else in. Quick Strike is a great call and one I had not considered.
