i am thinking about a best (or at least very good) defensedeck i would bring to an multiplayergame with unknown mates.
do not forget youn start with 28 because of Beyond the Original Bargain
i think this is a good shot. can defend safely with 6 with shadowcancelling sentinel from the start. (grimbeorn base 3 +1 from Wooden Lyre playable for free 1. turn and searched from Elena +1 Inner Strength +1 (MotK) Arwen Undómiel )
you start with 2 free restricted, so only need 4 to flipp (if wanting to flipp early)
maintask is to give Grimbeorn the Old more actions for more defenses and pile up restricted to be able to improve questing, and weapons for his counterattack and some minor little tricks:
- Dagger of Westernesse, good use with low startingthread or Gondolin Shield or Horn of Gondor can go to everyone
- Golden Horn (this one can also reduced to 0 but not same turn as Wooden Lyre but if one of them is in startinghand, draw the other with Elena )
- Relic of Nargothrond can go to the noldor, cheap and safety-defense if needed
- Strength and Courage if not so much defense is needed (or shadows are not so important) choose Strength and Courage as selected master-attachment to get more punch
- Beorn's Welcome to Grimbeorn the Old to let nim use his ability once per round for nearly free (if you spare his res from planning)
- Open the Armory to get the wanted weapon or armor faster
- Foe-hammer for carddraw (grimbeorn will kill)
- Golden Belt for more equippment preorise Grimbeorn the Old
- Keen as Lances the swissknife as long you cannot include Gandalf
- Elrond's Counsel if threadreduction is needed (and with The One Ring you threaten out at 45)
ther is only 1 Armored Destrier in the maindeck + 2 Cram in a 3-4 player fellowship it might be better to replace the Cram wit the 2 Armored Destrier in the sideboard. for small numbers i think the 2 Cram are more effective.
closing notes:
is this better as a similar with Beregond or Beregond? not in the defensive matter but at striking back. and the defensive matter is not much (if at all) worse. Grimbeorn the Old has 1 hp more and can use his ability in addition to Beorn's Welcome and mostly defense of 6 is enough, if fighting the balrod or dragons, it might perhaps better to use beregond.
