What's the best use of Merry's ability? Keeping you in secrecy is nice, but when you realize that there just aren't that many useful secrecy cards in the first place you start to wonder WHY keep your threat so low?
The answer is Gandalf.
Get Gandalf into play and keep him in play with this deck. Equip him with his toys (Shadowfax and Gandalf's Staff), and he's questing for 4, and attacking / defending for 4 twice with Ranged and Sentinel.
The big issue is keeping your Hobbits alive. Barliman Butterbur and Bill the Pony help with that. You're ideally looking for Resourceful / Timely Aid turn one so that you can take advantage of that first-turn secrecy to plop out your powerful secrecy cards. Your first Resourceful goes on Pippin.
After that, get Gandalf on the table and keep him there. Put all the Fast Hitch you find on Merry, you'll want to use him to reduce your threat as often as you can. A Hobbit Pony is also great on him. Healing Herbs are actually surprisingly good in this deck, as you typically will have leftover actions since Gandalf is doing the heavy lifting.
