DECK NAME - Flamers

OVERVIEW - Ok, so we have to abuse the 0-threat thing. How do we do that? By using high starting threat heroes and including secrecy cards. But rather than just loading up on secrecy cards, we need to build a deck that has an effective strategy to deal with this particular scenario, especially early threacheries. The new hero in this pack is the perfect card to build around for this quest. Additionally, we need access with high and loads of card draw. So we'll turn to a couple of tried and true heroes that are still hard to beat two cycles in.

HEROES

STRATEGY

  • SET UP - you really want to have 3 specific cards in hand at the start of the game: A Test of Will, Elrond's Counsel and Risk Some Light; you want to protect yourself against early treacheries; the best card to start with is Risk Some Light
  • ROUND 1 - exhaust Beravor to draw cards and then quest with Eowyn and Elrond; hopefully you don't get a doomed 1 effect; if so, Elrond's Counsel is huge to bring threat back to zero and skip a Balrog attack in round 1 (and subsequent early rounds)
  • CARD DRAW - Beravor, Gléowine, 2X Master of the Forge, 2X Daeron's Runes, and Gandalf; card draw is crucial with this deck
  • THREAT REDUCTION - not really necessary except that Elrond's Counsel can keep Balrog from engaging you for the first 3 rounds if you draw into them (or if you use Dwarven Tomb to recur)
  • HEALING - don't forget that with Elrond's ability Warden of Healing heals for 2 a pop
  • STAGE 1B - turtle here until you get your deck ready; you need to be comfortable with taking 2 Balrog attacks in one round before moving; no need to attack Balrog yet unless to clear Second Deep
  • STAGE 2B - we cannot linger here
  • STAGE 3B - after we have damaged Durin's Bane to a comfortable level, use Beorn's action during the final combat phase before the final Refresh phase so that he is shuffled into our empty deck; then during refresh you can use Dark Pit's action to discard Beorn and win
  • THREACHERIES - the worst ones are Counterspell and Fiery Sword; always try and have A Test of Will in hand or use Risk Some Light to manage the cards revealed in staging; Miner of the Iron Hills can deal with conditions that hurt us
  • Will of the West - included one copy so we can play Sneak Attack, Elrond's Counsel and A Test of Will without concern
