IT'S A TRAP (deck)!

One of the frustrating aspects of playing trap decks is not being able to find enemies to spring your traps with. Early willpower can sometimes be an issue as well since heroes are often mixed with or heroes to get combat ability. I wanted to take a mono-sphere approach, using the interesting Celador hero from the ALEP community expansion, whose readying ability give lots of questing flexibility. (MotK) Firyal is a great third option, as she provides immediate encounter deck management and turn 1 willpower. This deck features:

  • Strong card draw: Damrod (when a trap activates), Gléowine, Daeron's Runes
  • Encounter deck management: Firyal lets you get rid of pesky treacheries and massage the deck to find enemies for your traps!
  • Solid threat management: If you have enough willpower online, use Celador's threat reduction ability to keep things in check.
  • Good questing power: Plenty of in your heroes and allies keeps you moving along.
  • Healing: Optional to use Warden of Healing; could swap for the fun It Should Be Spared.
  • Combat tricks: Ranger Spear does so much work here, Coney in a Trap as needed, Deeping Defender to bump enemies back up into staging if they managed to skip over your traps, Spring the Trap to get some high-cost allies into play cheaply.
  • Discard pile interaction: Erebor Hammersmith and Anborn can dig traps out of the discard pile to make sure you always have one handy. Approximately 34% of your deck consists of traps, so you will never be at a loss for one!

trap deluxe ^^ would replace Ranger of Cardolan with Mirkwood Hunter you have no dunedain hero so cannot use ability and the mirkwood could be cheaper and have additional ranged. in my experience, Anborn was never worth it. would add Quickbeam and Ghân-buri-Ghân for him.

i agree with doomguard on Anborn.

Aw, so much Anborn hate! He’s not that bad, especially if you can get him for a discount with either Seasoned Forager or Spring the Trap. Lore doesn’t have many 3 allies, and his ability is nice in a pinch!

@doomguard I do like that Mirkwood Hunter swap out. Good suggestion.

@bhuster i included Anborn also i most of my trap decks and came to the conclusion i almost never used it's ability....

for 3 attack: one of my replacements Quickbeam do it cheaper and can also quest better.

Spring the Trap should be used for Faramir or Mirkwood Hunter

I would try to find room for It Should Be Spared. It's a lot better than people give it credit. It cycles for free with Damrod and can reduce your threat with Celador. Since the trap is unattached at the end of the quest phase, it even helps with questing.
