Just curious, what is the starting threat? Sarumans 13 or Aragorns 12?

Is there a more ideal version of Aragorn to use with this build?

If you equip Saruman’s staff and then helm of secrecy into Aragorn, then Aragorn can use Saruman’s staff? I guess “no,” since it’s not an “eligible” attachment for Aragorn.

I’m surprised there isn’t any Daeron's Runes since more free card draw is good.

Also, how does Helm of Secrecy really work? I discard all tokens first, so it seems like I don’t get any resources carried over. And presumably I’d also discard damage tokens? So then when I do the swap, there are no damage tokens left to actually move to the incoming hero?! Clearly that’s not design intent, but why did I discard them in the first sentence?!

This is awesome! I'm going to give it a go in my next multiplayer ...and keep secret what the mid-game twist is!

Also, @ira212, Aragorn can use the staff, because you only check eligibility when playing the attachment. It falls under the same ruling as losing a song attachment. Let's say you attached A Burning Brand to a tactics hero that had a Song of Wisdom already attached (granting them the Lore icon). If that hero loses the song, the Brand remains attached. So... have fun!

if eligibilty is only checked while playing an attachement, it has no meaning on the card, it was obsolete on that cards. i think, as it stand, you have to make an eligibility-check as soon as you attach them to the new hero.

@WanderingTook``@doomguardI'm talking about the specific text on Helm of Secrecy, not the general rule about checking attachment validity. Specifically, the text on Helm of Secrecy says "move all eligible attachments..." so that implies to me we check again for eligibility when the attachment is moved, per card text.

Should clarify with my question: more ideal Aragorn to attach to Lore Aragorn attach with Thorongil.

@ira212Yep, I stand corrected. Helm of Secrecy does indeed explicitly prevent moving ineligible attachments. Sorry Aragorn, no staff for you!

But what about the (damage) tokens from Helm of Secrecy? Is there an official ruling or an errata?

@Mr. Meson for me the ideal version of Aragorn to use is Aragorn for the whole "resetting threat" part.

@ira212Saruman's Staff is not an eligible attachment for Aragorn so it's not moved. The One Ring and the Master attachments on the other hand have no such problem. This also reminds me that I forgot to put in a copy of Ring of Barahir in this deck.

For Helm of Secrecy the intent is "discard resource tokens and keep damage tokens". The discard all tokens then move the damage tokens is a weird phrasing, perhaps simply a mistake made by forgetting to put "resource" in front of the first instance of "tokens".

For the card draw for now I didn't feel the need for it, also Deep Knowledge is much better for that than the Daeron's Runes.

amazing to see a deck using Helm of Secrecy not just for flavor but as a solid gameplan!

perhaps to play it to it's full potential you could run a roster of scenario-specific alternatives to aragorn to make this a more complete deck?

also since we are digging into technicalities about attachment eligibility, wouldn't Inner Strength and Well Preserved be invalid for aragorn? it is my understanding that all elligible attachments are attached at once, which means aragorn is not elligible for master attachments until The One Ring has been attached already. It's kind of the same question as "can we attach Song of Wisdom and A Burning Brand to a non- character simultaneously?"

@askeladPossibly, and it will be quite easily done since only Gandalf is ineligible as a target for Helm of Secrecy with Saruman as the base. But one of the main stichk of the deck is a lot of threat increase effects during the Saruman phase of the game so I think Loragorn will still be the most useful option. And the other versions of Aragorn will be still prefered since there a lot of his toys going around (I guess you can switch them around too).

For the Master attachments you raise an important point, which is not really clear. I based my assumptions on the usual approach of "if some mechanical things all happen with the same timing the players decide the order", but it's quite a grey area. I think in this game there are no totally simultaneous things, but it's simply my opinion.

Speaking of rule clarifications I think I should point out that after using Helm of Secrecy you can no longer use the contract benefits, since the switched-in hero is not your "starting hero".

I am not entirely sure The One Ring, being "Immune to non-Master card effects", can be moved over to a hero being swapped in by Helm of Secrecy.

Then again, I am not sure about anything with the Helm, heh.

I agree with Sappidus, which means that using Helm of Secrecy on a character with The One Ring is an auto-loss.
