Continuing our Progression series, this Foundations of Stone deck is an evolution of my deck from The Long Dark (link below). This is the last quest before FAQ v1.3 takes effect and we lose power on Beravor and Zigil Miner and have to try to rework or abandon the combo.
Prior deck: https://ringsdb.com/deck/view/290039
The big change is Imladris Stargazer now makes the combo almost trivial (maybe that's why the Zigil Miner nerf showed up with the next adventure). Instead of seeing only the top three and having to get lucky scrying into a five card deck, now we just see all five cards. As such, we can always have the cards fall exactly where we want them and we don't even need Gildor Inglorion anymore. We also only need two six-cost cards since we can perfectly stack them with some excess card in between (like a duplicate Gléowine). Beravor, one Stargazer, and two Zigil Miner gets the job done. Look at top five (all) cards, put Will of the West and Grim Resolve on top, with the other three being Beorn, extra copy of Gléowine, then Brok Ironfist. Beravor draws the Will & Grim. Zigil Miner for six dumps Beorn and Gléowine, then second Zigil Miner dumps Brok Ironfist. Play Grim Resolve then Will of the West and you're back where you started but with $6 more. Repeat for unlimited money. Payoff process is the same as for the deck linked above.
Two other relatively minor updates are Light of Valinor (to play on my partner's Elladan or Elrohir) and Daeron's Runes to help get the combo faster. As a tweak, we're going all in on the Grim Resolve acceleration.
We cut one Brok Ironfist since we only need two 6-cost now, two Gildor Inglorion because we have Imladris Stargazer, Gandalf because our partner is already using Sneak Attack Gandalf. For the other four cuts, it's debatable, but I went with two West Road Traveller, a Northern Tracker, and a Hasty Stroke.
Note: Gildor Inglorion is still better than Imladris Stargazer up until the last moment when we want to combo out. The ability to swap in a high cost card for mining is very strong. Also, the extra copies of Gildor Inglorion are themselves very good fodder for mining.
Net change:
- +1 Imladris Stargazer
- -1 Brok Ironfist
- +3 Daeron's Runes
- -1 Gandalf
- -2 West Road Traveller
- +1 Light of Valinor
- -1 Hasty Stroke
- +1 Grim Resolve
- -1 Northern Tracker
