WanderingTook 1382
WanderingTook has a newer deck inspired by this one: They Took Merry!
Synopsis
A Treebeard and Ent deck built for a multiplayer campaign.
Design
Treebeard is a fantastically versatile hero, filling the role of quester, defender, or attacker as needed. He doesn't synergize as nicely with the rest of the Ents as his ally version does, but there are enough of them about to warrant the inclusion of Entmoot, and therefore this is an Ent deck.
For context, Pippin had previously earned the Noble Hero boon, which grants him +1 and the Noble trait.
Strategy
- Mulligan for Song of Kings or Captain's Wisdom. Resources are the bottleneck of this deck, so you want to get them early.
- Healing is your next biggest priority. Get Wellinghall Preservers, Self Preservations, and Wardens of Healing out as soon as you can.
- Treebeard gets Self Preservation and a couple of Ent Draughts.
- Pippin gets Song of Kings, Protector of Lórien, and Fast Hitch. While not strictly required, Protector of Lórien is nice just in case you need Pippin for emergency defense.
- Boomed and Trumpeted is one of the best cards in this deck. Remember: Treebeard can damage himself at will, so you can trigger Boomed and Trumpeted whenever you want.
- Derndingle Warriors are great sentinel defenders, especially with Wellinghall Preservers in play.
- In theory, Merry can be used to ready Treebeard for multiple attacks. In practice, this is rarely required, so I prefer to give my first Fast Hitch to Pippin, so that he can ready himself after using Captain's Wisdom.
- Shadow of the Past is amazing, especially when you have the Gildor Inglorian boon and your companions are running Ranger Summons.
- Wingfoot is intended to be played on another player's hero.
Sideboard
- Against quests where player side quests are a boon, this deck works great as listed. Otherwise, substitute them out for another copy of Fast Hitch and Wingfoot.
- Since Wingfoot is intended to be played on another player's hero, and has no use on any characters in this deck, feel free to replace both copies with Gaining Strength.
Performance
- This deck was part of a multiplayer campaign that beat:
- The Ring Goes South
- Journey in the Dark
- Breaking of the Fellowship
