Synopsis
A Treebeard and Ent deck built specifically for The Uruk-hai quest in a multiplayer campaign.
Design
Treebeard is a fantastically versatile hero, filling the role of quester, defender, or attacker as needed. He doesn't synergize as nicely with the rest of the Ents as his ally version does, but there are enough of them about to warrant the inclusion of Entmoot, and therefore this is an Ent deck.
With the loss of Merry for this quest comes the loss of all of those useful cards. These have been replaced by more resource acceleration, more Ents, and Strider.
For context, Pippin had previously earned the Noble Hero boon, which grants him +1 and the Noble trait.
Strategy
- Mulligan for Strider. Getting the additional action advantage on Treebeard is essential.
- Resources are the bottleneck of this deck, so you want to get them early. Once you get a Song of Kings on Pippin, he can use Captain's Wisdom and Gaining Strength.
- Healing is your next biggest priority. Get Wellinghall Preservers, Self Preservations, and Wardens of Healing out as soon as you can.
- Treebeard gets Self Preservation, Strider, and a couple of Ent Draughts.
- Pippin gets Song of Kings, Protector of Lórien, and Fast Hitch. While not strictly required, Protector of Lórien is nice just in case you need Pippin for emergency defense.
- Use Good Meal to discount Gildor's Counsel or Lórien's Wealth.

Sep 07, 2016The trick to making this deck work is the resource acceleration, which unfortunately only works in this deck because I specifically gave Pippin the Noble trait (the trigger for Captain's Wisdom). In multiplayer, I think it can work, but it would need some resource help from a partner deck (perhaps an Errand-rider?). In solo play, removing the Campfire Tales, Captain's Wisdom and Gildor's Counsel can give you more space to play with. Maybe throw in some Elf-stones to help get your allies out. In the right quest, Keys of Orthanc might even be worthwhile. |
What a wonderfully clever deck and idea behind t. So cool. How do you think it would fare in other quests? In solo?
