Shellin 3420

As discussed on the Cardboard of the Rings Presents podcast feed, here is one of the decks I will be bringing to Con of the Rings 2023!

If you want to listen to this year's Con preview for discussion on the quests featured at this year's Con and some discussion on the decks we're bringing, be sure to check out the episode of Road to Rings 2023 here!

I wanted to try to build a Dwarrowdelf specific deck to pack for the Con this year, and this was what I cooked up.

I really wanted to utilize as much of the Dwarf Mountain/Underground tech as I could get away with since I think those cards are pretty fun and not used (at least by me) very often. Since the deck is pretty dumb, I also didn't want to use many cards that would be uniqueness conflicts, as I'll likely need to get carried to any victories that I achieve here. Which I suppose is not all that different from any of my other decks!

The main card here is Lay of the Nauglamír and a huge smattering of cheap Dwarf and Gondor allies. Due to The Last Alliance and Eleanor I can't benefit from the Devoted keyword here, so I need to rely on hitting an early Envoy of Pelargir with the contract and/or passing resources to Bifur to be able to play it early enough to really make a difference. In a perfect world I can also hit a Hidden Cache or Ered Luin Miner with it.

In addition to the fun Dwarf nonsense, many quests in Dwarrowdelf are pretty vulnerable to direct damage effects, so comboing them with Gondor to have some Gondorian Spearman, Spear of the Citadel and more cheap allies for Hail of Stones should mean that Thalin can put in some good work and I can help take out enemies despite not being super strong on the combat side of things.

I can't fathom a word in which I play Road to Rivendell, but I've got Eleanor and A Test of Will and Hasty Stroke here as well in the event that I get roped into that quest. I doubt I'll play this deck much, but it was a fun exercise to try to build something that should be a weird and fun multiplayer deck for that cycle. As a fun bonus, this is the first published deck on ringsdb with a Bifur, Eleanor, and Thalin lineup, which was fairly surprising to me since they're all long standing heroes in the game.

i was never aware that the The Last Alliance can improve devoted. perhaps that is slightly imbalanced.... you can start with Denethor and have save use of Lay of the Nauglamír 1. round exploit the combo, contract+lay twice (once for payment once for alllies that can be put in ) with one use of the contract.

@doomguard No, The Last Alliance cannot improve devoted. As written in the deck description:

"Due to The Last Alliance and Eleanor I can't benefit from the Devoted keyword here, so I need to rely on hitting an early Envoy of Pelargir with the contract and/or passing resources to Bifur to be able to play it early enough to really make a difference"

I need to play it for five Lore resources on Bifur.
