GamgeeGardens 9
The (very tenuous) Theme:
What might have happened had Boromir survived at Amon Hen, rather than being tragically slain defending the hobbits? This deck explores the idea of his return to Lothlorien in shame, listening the council of the elves and even accepting their supervision in his own quests. And who better to join this company than the lone messenger of Gondor and the lady of Rohan in disguise, each with something else to prove on the eve of the Battle of the Pellenor fields...
The Deck
Yeah, this is one of those attempts to make a mono-tactics deck with some semblance of power in solo. The range of cards we have now have answered most of the previous issues with tactics, however, hero actions can be hard to come by. Previous versions of this deck not using the Steward's firstborn were vulnerable to multiple enemies engaging faster than I could bring out allies to face them.
Therefore, the idea is to use Hirgon to bring out an ally after the quest in response to whatever the quest throws at you. It is quite nice to defend for 5 with a Defender of Rammas using the other ability. But (unlike some Boromir decks) one does need to use the threat raising abilities sparingly, despite the inclusion of Secret Vigil and Gandalf. That said, quest power is even more so in limited supply and it is often better to play Grimbold or Bofur without cost reduction so they are contributing to this.
The events are there to sure up more weaknesses, including card draw, shadows and defence boosts. If there are no boss enemies, use Trained for War and Éowyn's ability to do a big quest push at the end. I haven't tested the sideboard.
Have fun playing!
