The Deck’s Focus
This deck’s focus is to quest strong and sufficiently to win the game quickly, and to still be able to compete well with the enemies that are out there.
The Heroes
Aragorn is the main hero of this deck, since he can ready after he commits to the quest. He can contribute 2 to the quest, while being able to take on a couple of enemies if needed. But his main job other than questing is to destroy the enemies that you encounter with Glorfindel. To sum it all up, he’s a hero that can easily do whatever you need him to do, based on your situation.
Arwen is the lifeblood of the much needed resources for Aragorn, (to pay for the expensive allies and to use his ability) and questing alongside Glorfindel. She can also help defend in a pinch. She’s pretty much self-explanatory.
Glorfindel is huge in this deck, for threat and thematic reasons. First, the threat. His threat cost for 3/3/1/5 is CRAZY GOOD! That’s more than a 50% threat discount! It also allows starting at 26 threat instead of 33, which is big for 3 reasons, 1): You don’t have to engage enemies near the start of the game, 2): to get a good ending score on the scenario, and 3): I wouldn’t have to worry too much about my threat. (Even though I do want to keep it low. Who doesn’t?)
Glorfindel’s attack strength is much needed, to be able to help eliminate enemies quicker.
The Deck’s Main Cards
The Allies:
This guy is incredible in this deck! He can help you quest for 1 and then you can spend one resource to ready him. He can then help attack for 2 , which is nothing to laugh at. (He’s like a mini Aragorn!) But this guy gets even better! With the Fellowship contract if you control 9 , he can quest for 2 , spend 1 to ready him, then attack for 3! He is no joke. Literally.
Elfhelm’s job is to remain ready until the combat phase. That way, if you hit a doomed encounter card that raised your threat at 49, you could give yourself one more round to be able to pay for that Greeting or Gandalf in your hand.
Galdor is an auto-include in this deck, because of Arwen. You can discard a card, then you could draw 1 card to replace the discarded one all thanks to Galdor. Just maybe you’ll draw the card that you so desperately needed!
Jubayr’s stats are much needed for this deck! He is the main defender of this deck, thanks to his 3 . Gandalf or Aragorn can fill in for him if he’s maxed out or in your deck or hand, since they’re the next best defenders. His ability can also help protect himself or a different defender from a nasty shadow just waiting to obliterate the defending character (Something you don’t want happening in this deck).
The Attachments:
Very self explanatory. Mandatory in this deck.
This attachment serves two purposes. One is to be able to attack an enemy before it attacks you, and the other is to give Aragorn the icon. This deck should have enough attack strength to finish the job if Aragorn doesn’t.
Thorongil can serve to give Glorfindel the icon, or to help with combat. Both help really well, but it just matters on the situation. If you need more resources, put Thorongil on Glorfindel. (The extra attack strength won’t help too much, Glorfindel will mostly be attacking with another character.) If you’re having trouble with your threat or having problems with attacking, put Thorongil on Aragorn. Like I said before, it matters on the situation.
Self explanatory, if you have all three in your hand or something like that, put 2 on Aragorn and 1 on Arwen. Glorfindel has his Light.
The Events:
This event is here to be used once on Glorfindel, or someone who could benefit from it (I only put one in). So be sure to use it when you REALLY need the extra attack strength against the Balrog, Witch King, dragons, you name it.
My idea of adding this card is to use it to ready Aragorn when he needs his resources to pay for cards, and can’t afford to ready himself. So instead of using one of Aragorn’s resources, you can use the Tale! You can use pretty much anyone Noldor to ready Aragorn, but Glorfindel or Arwen would be best, since Aragorn would have 5/6/5/5 for a little bit!
The Side Quests:
This card is really good when you need a card, but you don’t know when it’s going to show up. The possibilities are nearly endless, so I won’t list them. But you get the idea of how important to go searching your deck for a card you so desperately need!
This card is vital in playing Galdor, since I don’t have access to Lore in this deck. I wish I had Thurindir for my setup! But seriously, I NEED this card to be able to play one of my best allies! Also, this side quest comes in handy when playing the allies when Aragorn can’t pay for all of them.
The Contract:
This contract is the backbone of this deck, and the reason why I only put unique allies in this deck. I also put it in here for some thematic reasons. But also, when you control 9 unique characters, each character gets +1 , +1 , and +1 ! It’s a huge but awesome bonus. I just love this contract!
Final Adjustments:
Swap out Dúnedain Warning with Hauberk of Mail or Sword of Númenor, and swap out Keep Watch with one The Storm Comes.
Have fun with this deck, and be sure to watch for quest logs!
