Thurindir searches for Gather Information, which is highest priority to be completed turn 1 (hopefully with The Long Defeat attached).
Since this was your side quest, you get to tell your comrades which cards to look for. If they don't obey, threaten to not defend for them. Hooray for "cooperative" games!
You want them to get Gather Information, Song of Wisdom and Path of Need. You yourself get A Burning Brand.
Demand Song of Wisdom to be played on Beregond, which allows you to give him A Burning Brand.
Continue questing the second Gather Information if the main quest allows for such delays. If this is successful as well, search for Rally the West and try to complete it, too.
Now Thurindir has 6, which is nice. But more importantly, Legacy Blade packs a punch.
Whenever Círdan the Shipwright has the option to discard Ethir Swordsman, do so.
