AtaruSlash 4469

This deck is pure smash-up gold. You take the standard Gandalf module and smash it together with the current suite of Ents; because it turns out Narya with ents is pretty okay. Mablung and Bifur are really there to pull the necessary resources where you need them.

In your opening hand, ideally you'd like to see a Treebeard and/or Entmoot. Which, by the way, is bonkers in this deck. It hits hard. So hard. Rarely do I pull fewer than 2 cards with Entmoot, and most of the time it's closer to 3-4. Of course an early Shadowfax or Gandalf's Staff is great as well. One of the things I really love about this deck is how simple and straightforward it is. Because of this, I've yet to draw an opening hand that wasn't totally playable. No tricksiness=no sad mulligans. Really though, Narya is such a bomb card in this deck. Trading one of Gandalf's (hopefully two) actions for two ent readies is such a good trade. It almost completely negates the tempo hit of the ents coming in exhausted. Treebeard is an absolute monster, and getting two defenses out of Derndingle Warrior can save your (or a friend's) bacon.

The standard Expert Treasure-hunter and Hidden Cache silliness is here as well, but if it makes you feel dirty, the replacements are in the sideboard.

Since this is the first ent deck I've published below are some fun combos for those who haven't dived in yet:

Treebeard + anything: He truly is the ent hero we need, if not the one we deserve. Getting him down as early as possible is so key. His additional resources help smooth out any sphere match inequalities you might have, and being able to ready any ent, including himself, is just gravy.

Ent Draught + Ents: You may notice that one of the great strength of the ents is their intense hardiness for the cost. Most ents use damage and their hit points as a sort of currency to buy bulk amounts of awesome. Get an Ent Draught on and it's even better. Treebeard can defend the biggest of bads, and with Narya can then pop back up to attack for hero levels. Derndingle Warriors get all the mileage out of their ability. My favorite though, is Beechbone. Can any other character do 6 damage with 2 attack? That's a neat trick.

Wellinghall Preserver + Ents: Obviously if you're spending your ents' health as currency, you'll want a way to mitigate that risk. Wellinghall Preservers do that ever so nicely, and add a nice dash of questing oomph besides. Warden of Healings are there to supplement, of course.

Now go rouse the forest and see how flat you can get those orcs.

Amazing! I love this style of deck. Thanks for posting.

For anyone that wants to pull a bit more thematic gold from this deck, you can swap in Merry(T) and Pippin(Lo) for Bifur and Mablung. You sacrifice some resource smoothing but you get to recreate your favorite scenes as Merry, Pippin, Treebeard, and the White Wizard rouse the ents.

@thanatopsisthanks! Definitely for the story-theme players, Merry and Pippin could slot in, basically with no other substitutions. Another great feature to the straightforwardness of the archetype.

If you're taking suggestions, have you ever considered using Hero Treebeard instead of Ally Treebeard? You could swap him in for Gandalf, and then maybe something like Elrond instead of Bifur so you could heal Treebeard more and use his ability more often. You could even use Gloin for resource generation instead of Mablung. That sounds like a pretty solid deck.

How is this deck solo?

Jul 07, 2016 AtaruSlash 4469

@bobrossit's pretty solid! It's a little bit of a slow roll willpower wise, but as soon as a couple ents hit the table, it gets rolling. Prioritize wandering ents and preservers.
