Copterman 1027

DECK NAME - The Hobbits of Ulfast

OVERVIEW - Just won 5 straight using this deck.

  1. Tons of threat reduction in order to avoid enemy engagement
  2. The needed to advance
  3. Cancel killer travel effects
  4. Spam Sneak Attack / Gandalf

HEROES

  • Bilbo Baggins - deck requires one hero; card draw makes him a better alternative than Pippin since we won't be optionally engaging enemies; mono-hobbits is necessary for The Shirefolk
  • Frodo Baggins - attach Steward of Gondor and Song of Wisdom; his response provides consistent threat reduction; usually ready a chump like Bill the Pony in case an encounter effect results in an immediate attack
  • Sam Gamgee - deck requires second hero; provides free Bill the Pony

STRATEGY

  • SET UP - mulligan for Steward of Gondor; choose Streets of Ulfast as the set up location.
  • Put out at least one ally per turn to keep increase rolling; Sneak Attack / Gandalf is also viable early rather than playing permanent allies
  • When advancing quest levels, you will usually want to opt for the 5-threat increase
  • FINAL STAGE - usually can make necessary progress in 1 or 2 rounds using Gandalf and Faramir; you might even have to wait a round or two for City Guard's engagement cost to meet your threat (he cannot be optionally engaged); then minimally quest, chump block and hit back with all your remaining allies to kill City Guard.
  • CARD DRAW - Bilbo Baggins, Gléowine, Daeron's Runes, Drinking Song, and occasionally Sneak Attack / Gandalf will keep your hand full
  • LOCATIONS - 2X Ghân-buri-Ghân and 3X Thror's Map can negate killer travel effects when necessary
  • THREAT REDUCTION - 3x The Shirefolk, Frodo's response, and Sneak Attack / Gandalf will keep your threat around 20 the entire game usually; very rare to hit 30
  • Sneak Attack / Gandalf / Tome of Atanatar to keep threat low and buff questing; occasionally you may need to one-shot enemies in the staging area
  • 3x Snowbourn Scout - used for cheap chumping but it's gravy if you can take out a Crowded Market location with 2 of them
  • 3x Ranger Spikes - such a key to this deck; play this as early as possible; best possible target is Ulfast Sentry due to 25 engagement cost; NOTE: The King's Elite cannot have attachments, but hitting 30 threat is rare so usually not a big deal

NOTE: Gimli is really not that playable in this deck; just too expensive until you've got the game in hand. Maybe add a second copy of Faramir or potentially add Barliman Butterbur to protect against undefended attacks when City Guard gets an unexpected second attack.
