My Dwarrowdelf deck Top 10 Songs of 3016 did eventually beat almost all the scenarios in the cycle but was literally crushed by the last one: Shadow and Flame. This quest clearly requires a different approach. I've looked at some reported solutions on the forums (e.g. dwarf swarm decks or those using Háma+Feint) but in the end decided to build my own deck from scratch.
I am fully aware that the choice of cards in this deck is not really thematic. The first question you surely ask yourselves is "What are two Gondorians and an elf doing in the deepest tunnels of Moria?". Well, they were brought there by the eagles, duh... ;)
The idea of this deck is to neutralize Durin's Bane with armored Beregond (e.g. a free Gondorian Shield to play on the first turn!) and deal damage with Legolas. Eleanor will help to prevent Durin's Bane from getting those nasty attachments. This deck utilizes the fact that at the beginning the threat is brought to 0 so you'll find here few cards with secrecy: Celduin Traveler - ideal starting hand card, can help with questing early on and you get to peak the incoming encounter and discard a location (this deck prefers enemies to locations in the staging area so this a very welcome bonus). Out of Sight - helps with dealing with Durin's Bane before Beregond can handle it. Resourceful - another dream card for the starting hand and also the only means to generate extra resources here.
Arwen Undómiel and a few of Celduin Traveler's should take care of questing. Arwen Undómiel also gives a bonus defense to Beregond. Thanks to the low threat you'll also engage enemies in the staging area at the moment it suits you and you'll kill them with Legolas armed with Blade of Gondolin for extra progress tokens. Those enemies can be blocked easily by Beregond or by Defender of Rammas if our hero is busy with the boss or you can play Hands Upon the Bow to attack with Legolas directly. Legolas killing enemies will provide also card draw (Foe-hammer). Bofur will help to find the weapons for him.
The eagles Vassal of the Windlord and Winged Guardian should not be used for attacking/defending if not needed because then you'll be forced to discard them. Instead Support of the Eagles should be attached to Beregond and Legolas to give them the bonus in defense and attack strength respectivelly. If Beregond did get some beating on the way you can give him a second breath with a cheap Citadel Plate or Feint. Silver Lamp and Hasty Stroke help with shadow effects.
Black Arrow, Beorn and Rivendell Blade are crucial in defeating Durin's Bane. They might be difficult to find though and to help with that 2 copies of core set Gandalf have been added for the card draw. The third Gandalf can stay in play easily thanks to the low starting threat.
