Synopsis
A solo Love of Tales doom deck; heavy on questing, with some combat power.
Design
I created this deck to highlight the "Inspiration" feature on RingsDB as part of a CotR community deck spotlight. Originally an FFG Staff Deck, credit for Grímatization goes to wilecki, who created this deck's parent: Top 10 Songs of 3016.
In this incarnation, I've shifted the card distribution and resource curve to enhance the questing power of Longbeard Map-Maker and Lay of Nimrodel.
Strategy
- Mulligan for Master of the Forge. Gléowine is a decent second choice.
- A Burning Brand, Protector of Lórien, and both Miruvors are for Gríma.
- Steward of Gondor and Keys of Orthanc go on Bifur. Ideally, everyone gets a Love of Tales, but Bifur gets the first.
- Use Gríma's ability liberally to establish your board presence. I have included the full three copies of Isengard Messenger to take advantage of this.
- Gandalf is your only source of threat reduction, so use him wisely.
- Take advantage of Bifur's resource transfer whenever you can.
- Sing songs of doom for fun and profit; then, use Lay of Nimrodel and Longbeard Map-Maker to push through to victory!
Sideboard
- Power of Orthanc is a great include for quests that warrant it, since it synergizes with Isengard Messenger and Keys of Orthanc.
