DECK NAME - Fly, You Fools!

https://youtu.be/HprZZdgXAY4

OVERVIEW - Once again, Thalin w Gondorian Spearman is a must for this quest. When Gondorian Spearman kills an enemy, it negates the shadow effect. Denethor is also a must in order to attempt to bury the worst encounter cards. Dáin Ironfoot gives you that nice dwarf boost as well as necessary access. If you can get things rolling, you'll win this in 15 rounds or so. Losses will happen from getting overwhelmed early, but that's true of any progression deck against this quest.

HEROES

STRATEGY

  • SETUP - mulligan for Steward of Gondor
  • CARD DRAW - included 3X Gléowine to insure early card draw; 2X Ancient Mathom are great but are useless cards until you attach Song of Travel or Narvi's Belt to Dain; Gandalf if also a huge card draw piece
  • THREAT REDUCTION - included 1x The Galadhrim's Greeting and that seems to work well in conjunction with Gandalf w Sneak Attack or Born Aloft
  • Shadow of the Past and Henamarth Riversong can help until Denethor has multiple Unexpected Courage attached
  • END GAME - don't forget that the Refresh Action on Escape from Darkness happens after you ready all your cards, so Denethor will exhaust and then you'll exhaust an Unexpected Courage to ready him next round
  • ABANDONED TOOLS - if Abandoned Tools is added to the staging area from the Quest Card effect on Narrow Paths, you do not reveal an encounter card to guard it

ENCOUNTER CARDS

  • Shadow of Fear - Dain/SOG will take care of this treachery easily. I decided not to include Miner of the Iron Hills because it costs 2 vs this treachery costing 3. Just not worth it.
  • A Foe Beyond / Sudden Pitfall - stupid cards; use Denethor to bury them
  • Chieftain of the Pit is the worst enemy in this encounter deck imo. Even worse than Great Cave Troll due to its low encounter cost; it's best to bury all of these enemies rather than waste Gandalf for his damage effect; card draw or threat reduction is what you want with Gandalf
  • Dreadful Gap - not the worst thing if it comes into play, but it will boost The Nameless Fear's threat if you add it to the victory display
