Card Talk 1188

Card Talk released an episode this week about the Dunedain Message. I'm sure that this card was picked by Matt over at the blog because it was released (and rereleased) in Angmar Awakens cycle. So, I decided to go all in on Side Quests and use this card. Funny thing is that even though it provides an "extra copy" of some of the side quests, I probably would still cut the card. I was able to play test this against Journey Down the Anduin and Intruders and Chetwood and I was able to get a win. It's not a power deck, but it's definitely a fun deck to get going and play.

Using Messenger of the King Halfast Gamgee also was a nice surprise. I needed a low cost hero and Halfast Gamgee gives someone an extra resource when he enters play. Coupled with Denethor, I'm already starting in sleazy mode (an extra resource per hero to start with)

To play this deck, you are really going to go all in on Denethor being your defender and Thurindir and (MotK) Halfast Gamgee questing. So the DĂșnedain Warnings go on Denethor and the DĂșnedain Quests go on (MotK) Halfast Gamgee. Let Thurindir collect side quests and boost his . Later on, either him or Thalion can be your attacker. Load either up with the Legacy Blade and/or DĂșnedain Marks and you can have a pretty beefy attacker. I had Thurindir with 9 at one one point dispatching any enemy it could.

Steward of Gondor should go on Thurindir, that way you can pull out a first round East Road Ranger or Wellinghall Preserver so you can get bodies on the board. Also, the Steward of Gondor on Thurindir helps to buff the Longbeard Map-Maker to whatever you need to quest successfully. The Longbeard Map-Maker is one of the few cards left in the pool that does not have a limit to its buff, so have at it!

Rune-master is also a good early card because you can play the signals virtually for free and it doesn't matter which hero it goes on since the resource goes to the hero that had the signal attached to it.

The side quest to pull out can vary based on the scenario. Song of Hope should go on (MotK) Halfast Gamgee but I can see cases where it goes onto Thurindir especially since he has the Steward of Gondor, but makes more sense for mid to late game since (MotK) Halfast Gamgee will likely always be questing and Thurindir may be held back to attack.

Lastly, in this last iteration of the deck, I substituted Ranger Summons with Woodmen's Clearing because I never was able to get the Ranger of the North out AND I needed the threat reduction.

Enjoy!

would include a Love of Tales and 1-2 The Road Goes Ever On because of that many sidequests, then you have 6-7 songs all cost 0.

What about a Steed of the North or Magic Ring for Thurindir, to take advantage of both and stats? Cram could also work, i suppose.

Ooh I like the idea of Steed of the North for Thurindir! That could be lethal with 1-2 Legacy Blades and a couple of Side Quests in the VD.

@kjeld and @Marctimmins89 I also love the idea of Steed of the North on Thurindir. Let's him use both his stats when needed. Will update.
