Jarfol 13

A solo deck centered around some of the great attachments for Elrond, Glorfindel, and Aragorn.

Elrond

Elrond and Vilya are the obvious primary combo. Thanks to their abilities to play one card for free per turn, and pay for an ally of any sphere, we can include any allies we wish.

Glorfindel

Glorfindel helps keep the starting threat at 30, which is respectable. Thanks to Light of Valinor we can quest and not exhaust him (ignoring his only weakness). Asfaloth is just amazing on him. He is our primary attacker.

Aragorn

You would expect Elrond to be the primary defender, however ideally he is exhausting every turn to use Vilya. Aragorn is thus the primary defender. With A Burning Brand and Self Preservation combo'd with Elrond's healing ability, there isn't much Aragorn needs to worry about.

That leadership attachment issue

A key sticking point to this deck is that Celebrían's Stone, Steward of Gondor, and Sword that was Broken cannot be played unless Elrond or Galadriel can pull them. Obviously, once you get Sword that was Broken out, Aragorn can now pay for the other two.

Events

The events are few. Mainly threat reduction and the always useful A Test of Will.

Allies Allies are where this deck can shine. Thanks to Elrond we generally don't have to worry as much about cost or sphere. So as many as half of your allies can be any sphere and any cost. Go crazy. Gandalf is a no brainer, same with Galadriel considering the number of attachments we have and the fact that she can equip Aragorn as stated earlier. Faramir combos incredibly with Sword that was Broken, giving everyone +2 willpower. Daughter of the Nimrodel can heal a bit more thanks to Elrond. Henamarth Riversong is an auto include in any lore deck I would think. Mirkwood Runner's ability can be really clutch sometimes, although I wish he was a 2 cost instead of 3. The combo of Imladris Stargazer and Elrond+Vilya is pretty obviously amazing, and when you add in Master of the Forge you can then shuffle your deck if you didn't see anything you liked, and likely draw one of the many attachments at the same time.

FAQ (likely questions I will just head off here):

Q: Why not X card? (Gildor Inglorion or a ranger attachment for example)

A: The answer is probably, I don't have that card. I have nearly all of the first two cycles, and most of the LOTR saga expansions. Not the biggest collection by any means. Considering that I am a big Tolkien fan and like to play thematically when I can, and the fact that I have played several TCG's in the past, I have an admittedly indefensible dislike for proxying. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate suggestions so I know what to consider buying next :)

Q: Why Loragorn instead of leadership Aragorn?

A: Two simple answers, and one perhaps controversial one. The simple ones are A Burning Brand (again, Elrond should be using Vilya, not defending), and avoiding a three sphere deck. The controversial answer is that I absolutely love Loragorn's ability. It is like starting every game with a trump card. If I time it with a Gandalf and The Galadhrim's Greeting, I can go from 49 threat to 19 threat. Sure, it doesn't happen too often. But I have won enough games solely due to his ability to really appreciate it. Why not a better lore defender? Well, scroll back up to the first sentence of these notes.

Happy playing!
