RedSpiderr 1797

RedSpiderr has a newer deck inspired by this one: Saga Deck 15.2: The Way Is Shut

I used this deck for the thirteenth quest of my Saga Campaign. I am going to try and keep it as thematic as possible, stemming from the 'What If?' of 'What if Gandalf didn't escape from Orthanc in The Fellowship of the Ring?' Please note, I don't own all the cards, so am not able to make the most powerful thematic deck theoretically possible, but constrained by what I have, here is my best attempt.

Frodo and his companions have escaped with their lives following the great battle in Ithilien. In the aftermath, they resolve to continue on their path to Cirith Ungol, despite urgings from the men of Gondor that the safer road would be to Minas Tirith. Nevertheless, a few brave men of that city, led by Faramir's own brother Boromir, have agreed to escort them at least to the Morgul Vale, or further if their courage holds, for few who venture into that country ever return.

Given the punishment this quest has of allies, attachments and cards in hard (i.e. events waiting to be played) this really punishes all three types of cards we can muster. As with this deck's partner, I am going to double-down on attachments, hoping that I can outpace the encounter decks punishment of them. Card-draw provided by Damrod and his traps, Mithrandir's Advice and Ancient Mathom should help us to gain as many of these attachments as possible. There is some encounter-deck control here with Ranger Spikes and Entangling Nets hampering enemies, Denethor and A Test of Will should see us avoid the worst of the treacheries, and Expert Trackers and Secret Paths will help us ensure locations won't bottle up our progression.

The attachments of this deck are general support for the pair we are taking to Shelob's Lair. Frodo Baggins and Sam Gamgee will want Friend of Friends and Fast Hitch as soon as possible, and Song of Wisdom with A Burning Brand will help our defenders by negating any Shadow Cards they might have to face. Ranger Bow is included to help strip Shelob of her resources, and indeed any other enemy in the staging area kept there by Guardian of Ithilien or Ithilien Archer, or even Ranger Spikes. Sword-thain is included for Boromir in the partner deck, to allow him to equip as many toys as possible.

This deck represents the survivors of the battle in Ithilien, those willing to follow Boromir and Faramir into the Morgul Vale out of love for their captains. The anonymity of these servants of Gondor in no way diminished their bravery, as they with face its terrors with little more than that which they can carry and their wits.
