askelad 640

The Istari walks among us. As his fervent servants, it is our duty to protect him, and provide him with all he requires, for he is our savior and will cleanse middle hearth of the evil that dwells in the dark.

The goal

equip as fast as possible as much attachments as possible on the Gandalf on the other side of the table. We want to give out:

The version i worked with also included Glorfindel, so i also added Light of Valinor and Asfaloth as no-brainers, but those can be cut if glorfindel isn't in the other deck.

the rest of the attachments which the godalf deck should provide themselves figures in the sideboard.

How

Erestor allows for massive draw every turn, at the cost of discarding end of turn. it allows for a style of play based on a very low curve and high redundancy: pick up a hand, play what you can, ditch the rest, rinse and repeat. We can cycle through the deck very fast, but it requires a very low curve.

that is where Beregond comes in:his ability combined with Gondorian Shield, Raven-winged Helm and Spear of the Citadel combined with erestor's profusion of cards enable a very strong defender very fast at no cost at all, which is nice.

But in this deck the main advantage of Beregond lies in the use of Bartering: bouncing a Raven-winged Helm or Spear of the Citadel gives us a 2 mana discount on an attachment, and can be played back for free. That way, Bartering effectiveley works for us as extra ressource to equip gandalf.

More support

The deck is heavily directed towards the goal of building the godalf, but it can also do work on it's own: first of all, Beregond is a massive defenser with Lembas and Unexpected Courage backup to block multiple attacks.

The addition of Ioreth in the deck lets us heal consistently: eventually, the deck runs out of relevent cards to play and resources pile up, which means using lore resource for healing is low opportunity cost to us.

Since we play a large amount of redundant attachments and 3 copies of Will of the West, we will probably end up with a big stack of useless cards in the deck. We make use of those cards along with Elven Spear to make a decent attacker out of erestor.

Godalf coming soon
