Overview

Here's my take on the eagles archetype with the new, only slightly better version of Radagast. And wow, what a difference just a few extra cards can make to really give some oomph to these eagles. I was able to log quite a few nightmare victories with this deck. I use Éowyn and Gildor Inglorion for strong turn 1 questing, low starting threat, extra card draw, and of course the emergency boss killer button.

Tricks

Oh boy. How about being able to "sneak attack" out 6 Gandalfs? Using the Wizard Pipe you can place a 'Dalf or even just a good eagle (Meneldor, Descendant of Thorondor) on the top of your deck and then play Gwaihir's Debt to guarantee it's success. Even without the pipe, it's very uncommon for Gwaihir's Debt to whiff. Once you have a Gandalf, grab as many Sneak Attack and Gwaihir's Debt as possible and keep the wizard train rolling.

Another good one is the Messenger Raven, Wizard Pipe combo. Use the pipe to swap an unneeded card in your hand with whatever is on top of your deck. You'll then know what is on top of your so when it comes time to use the raven's ability you can grab that card as well. Even better, if you have Radagast's Staff out you can reduce the cost of the raven to 0. Oh, and as icing on top, playing the raven will also trigger Radagast's ability to quest without exhausting. So if you have everything set up and you don't need Radagast's Staff for anything else, you can get a free card, effectively 3, and a readied Radagast. Not bad.

How to Play

Mulligan: You'll want to see a Radagast's Staff or Steward of Gondor in your opening hand, but it's not too critical because of the card draw and tutoring (Word of Command.

Early Game: Look to get a Steward of Gondor and a Radagast's Staff on Radagast as quickly as possible. If you didn't get either after the mulligan, spend Gildor Inglorion's resources to draw cards. Play a creature, quest with Radagast and if he isn't needed in the combat phase use Word of Command to help grab these cards as well.

Mid/Late Game: With Radagast set up, you should be spending extra resources from Gildor Inglorion to grab more cards or play your ravens, which also can grab more cards.

Use extra Word of Command to set up more Sneak Attack/Gwaihir's Debt/Gandalf combos to draw cards, lower threat, or direct damage enemies. Let some extra eagles get attached to Eagles of the Misty Mountains so you can get some meatier allies that are worthy targets for Radagast's Staff's readying ability.

Between Gildor Inglorion, Gandalf, The Eagles Are Coming!, Daeron's Runes, should have enough card draw to keep up with your resource acceleration, playing at least 1 eagle, but often more than 1 per turn.

Conclusion

The long awaited hero Radagast lives up to my hopes for him, and hopefully we'll see even more worthy creatures coming out in the future to make this archetype even better. My victory log includes:

Journey Along the Anduin NM

The Seventh Level NM

Into the Pit NM

To Catch an Orc NM

Escape from Umbar

The Three Trials NM
